Loading an article without refresh whole site

Posted 11 years 3 months ago
    • I think I don't Joomla correct...
How can I open (with for example a link) a new article in the same site, without refreshing it?
I have Leviathan installed and if I click on a link in the mainbody or in the showcase, I want it to load on the site just like it is on the frontpage: left a menu, on top a menu and a showcase. Now the whole site is reloading and building everything up. That is absolutely not nescessary. How can I fix this?

    • I don't think you could have the way your describing it without drastically change how Joomla works.

But, you could use modal windows to achieve the same basic effect. The down side is that modal windows aren't hard coded into most news display extensions (like GK News Show Pro, JB Micro Blog, or RokSprocket)... But, you can install JCE's Media Box, and then customize those extensions with that specialized class. Takes a bit of doing I'm sure...

Here are some basic links to get you started...

      www.joomlacontenteditor.net/downloads/mediabox

and here's a modal plg that might also come in handy...

    • Hmm... I thought there was a way to achive that in Joomla. Or was that in older versions?
Just that the sidebar, menu and footer not have to reload.

    • Don't get me wrong. I've seen it done. But I believe it was massive customization job.

      Hope I'm wrong.

I'd love to see you accomplish something like this...

In the meantime, I recommend you install JCE media box, and work in their css class for modal pop-ups.

I had a tutorial on how to make the menu links into pop-ups...

let me see if I can find it...

    • I pm'd it to you since it's on a development site I don't plan on launching.

As you can tell the tutorial is a bit dated since I keep referring to J! 1.7. The same direction should apply to 2.5.

Make sure you start by installing JCE and the Media Box plugin.

    • Maybe what you need to do is use Tabs.

If it's static content and you're not worried about automation, you could use tabs to scroll through and reveal full articles.

    • Hello Gene Page,

I looked at your websites and PM, but that is not what I was thinking of.
I have checked a very old site of me in joomla 1.0/1.5, and there it is like not loading. I think Joomla has a new way of loading it or working with this kind of articles.

Thank you for your help, but a rokbox to open an article is just not what I'm looking for (it looks good).
      Thank you so far.
