How is it possible to embed photos so they open with AJAX?

Hello,
I came across a really cool feature on one joomla site:
projects.j-prosolution.com/en/documents/...install-opensef.html
When you click on the image, they load with AJAX and they also dont reload the page.
Does anyone know how this is done?

- Lightbox needs few files linked in header, which are quite big ones and slows down site drastically because of this I had to remove lightbox.
