It's due to the sheer size of those fullscreen images that have to be downloaded. Gzip, cache and rokbooster will all help but no it's not controllable. Yes, you can put you own html5 animations or video in those positions if you want to (you will have to write the necessary code though and CSS too).

Thanks MrT for the infos & hints.
Hum!, tricky if, as I am and probably most of site web builder are, you are really finecky on the “first visual”
If this is not constant, I will not be able to use that type of template.
I see that in those 3 templates the top big image seem to be a sprocket module
Is this a real position that can be replace with any other module, slideshow or other ? — and if replace they will “Hide” the same way that with the sprocket module ?
Do you think the fact that the menu in Chimera is hidden first make a difference because Chimera seem to be more stable when it come to show the image first and site second ?
