- Can someone tell me the purpose of the Compile Wait time is in the Less options? Does it affect performance in any way?

Compile Wait is defined as the maximum time one php thread will wait while another compiles a css file. Since our templates carry the same basic LESS set of files that are compiled into the Master CSS when you make a change on the site - the greatest determining factor is the processing power of your server. I doubt you could make a custom CSS file large enough to significantly alter the compile time.
During development you could try adjusting the Compile Wait value to see if it helps with your developing process.
I would think this would be irrelevant on a production site as generally Stlyesheet changes aren't made on any kind of regular basis.
