Updating Kirigami to newer template - mainbody config question

Posted 8 years 6 months ago
    • Hi
We have been using the Kirigami template for several years and are looking at moving to a newer template - still on Gantry 4.
I was exploring using Plethora and came across a mystery!
On our exisiting Kirigiami templates (all duplicates of original) we are able to use 10 2 as the mainbosy config
10 being the content section 2 being the sidebar
You can see this in action here
      www.asafeworldforwomen.org/
While exploring using Plethora I am only able to use 9 3
      3 being the sidebar.
I was wondering why that might be?

      Best wishes

    • I tested in my Kirigami install and I'm unable to get a 10|2 split on my Mainbody position... perhaps you have a very old version of Gantry 4 on your Kirigami? I don't use the sidebar a whole lot... but I can't ever remember a 10|2 split being possible there... at least in any default installs

    • Hi Matt
Feeling very long in the tooth!
Suddenly remembered that Henning helped us 2+ years ago
      www.rockettheme.com/forum/joomla-templat...t-front-page-to-10-2
Now can we find a way to do the same in newer Gantry 4 templates?
      If so how!

      Thanks

      Andrew

    • The same or similar file could be created for Kirigami, yes

      Under 'mb12' => array(''),

the 'mb10-sa2' and 'sa2-mb10' bits need to be added

same goes for under 12 => array

    • Hi Matt
Took a bit of working out.
I couldn't find where the Gantry config file was that contained the settings.
In fact I found 3 of them!
Can you tell me what the difference is between
      1) the gantry config file in a templates /lib/gantry folder
      2) the one in libraries/gantry folder
and the gantry.config in the root of each template
And how to make sure if a template is upgraded that the config file is protected from being overwritten

Sorry for sounding stupid! It was a long time ago I made the changes..

    • 1) there isn't a gantry.config.php file there?
      2)...
      3) that's the templates specific config file which will override/be-appended-to the config file in #2... this is the one you want to change... it will however be overwritten upon upgrading the template, no way around that

This has been a perfectly reasonable thread... I haven't heard anything "stupid" here :)

    • Hi Matt
      Oh I love positive encouragement.
Out of interests sake - and I know it would be a big job for our site - are there any advantages to looking at shifting to Gantry 5 and changing the template - as opposed to changing the template on Gantry 4?
Does G5 make a site faster for instance?

      Best

      A

    • Yes, G5 is faster... has more features, better mobile device/touch event support and once you get the hang of it it's much easier to build pages in.

It's a complete rebuild from scratch though so you'd have to completely rebuild your site as well... you can of course export Joomla stuff like categories, articles, users, etc... but there's no direct migration path for a Gantry 4 template
