I have just installed the latest Joomla followed by Afterburner, and unpublished all the sample data from the Joomla install except for the main menu which I have published to the Nav position.
On the front page under the Showcase Is displayed "Welcome to the Frontpage" which I can't locate and remove.
Where will this be originating from so I can unpublish it?

You can go to Menus >> Main Menu >> Home
Then in the right side parameter (system), you can set the page title there

I got the answer folks. Due to my lil knowledge of html - i spent a lot of time figuring out this issue.
This is how i found the solution:
I open the demo in firebug and went to check the columns - and copied the html and fed in my editor.
pretty simple huh. i spent 4 hours figuring that out.
