    Using RocketLaunch

Posted 16 years 2 weeks ago
    • Apologies for these very basis questions from a newcomer.
I want to use the RocketLaunch process to upload one of your templates (Equinox) to my hosting provider and further customise it from there. The only change in the basic configuration I want to make is to set the width to "fluid".
Question 1: I find a rocket launch download V1.5. However the current stable Joomla! release is V1.5.2. After having downloaded your Rocket launch package, do I need to perform some kind of joomla update?
Question 2: Am I correct in assuming that I have to/can adapt the index.php for fluid widh after the unzip, but before the upload to my host?
Question 3: I also want to use the Dutch language pack for Joomla. Do I simply upload that afterwards? I suppose this does not conflict with the template?
Question 4: I want to move from TinyMCE to JoomlaFCK as my base editor. I suppose this doe not conflict with the template in any way?

I realise these may be stupid or even invalid questions, but I nevertheless ask for my learned fellow clubbers' benevolent consideration.

      Best regards,

    • Further to my earlier post. I have now duly installed Joomla using the Rocket Launch for Equinox. It IS V1.5.2, so that question is solved. I also installed the Dutch front-end and back-end, and the JoomlaFCK editor without problem. So those are also non-issues.

However, I have not been able to switch from "fixed" to "fluid" width. I can adapt the setting, both by editing INDEX.PHP in the template, and by using the admin interface and "changing" the template specifications. Though the file and the system now reflect the new values, nothing changes on the visible screen, i.e. still centered wiith a total width of, I would guess 990 pxls.

How do I adapt that to fluid?

I look forward to your esteemed comments.

    • For 1.5, you need to use the Template Manager in the administrator.

    • Thanks very much for the response. This I had tried to do this already, to no avail. In the mean time, however, I was able to resolve the issue. Only for the sake of completeness and possible help to others a recap of the diagnosis and cure: first of all, though my admin panel showed the new parameter settings alright, they were not propagated to the site as the params.ini file was not write enabled. After setting its permissions to 777 (was 555) all was well.
Even then, I did not observe any change in the rendered site. This proved due to the fact that, though I had set the type to "fluid", I had not changed the value for width, assuming that this would now simply be ignored. I then tried to blank it out altogether, again with no impact. Only when I changed that value to "fluid" as well, all of a sudden the site expanded to fill total screen width. It might be worth while to clarify this point in the tutorial.
Apart from possibly for filing purposes, this thread from my point of view, can now be closed.

      Regards to all,

      Willem
