    Help with Structure, please help

Posted 17 years 5 months ago
    • I understand the way it works is Section, Category, Content but its whats being displayed on the Homepage and the pages after yo click a link off the main menu that im having problems with

Structure im after is 3 levels

      Homepage- Sections
      Next Down - Categories
      Next down - content

I want to display on homepage, section names
i want to display on next down category names
then its just linking to content

So it might be like this..

      Homepage
      Section Names under Menu

They when clicked go to a page and then on the left it does say MAIN MENU it says " Category Menu "
and below that are the names of the categories for that Section

Then when anyone of those categories are clicked, then shows the content related and on the left it still says the CATEGORY MENU
and still has the category names ( hyperlinked ) showing...

      So imagine it like this

      Homepage Category page Content Page
      (section)

      Main Menu Cars Menu
      Cars
      BMW
      2006bmwoftheyear.html
      Planes Rolls
      2006rollsoftheyear.html
      trucks Audi
      Bikes Honda

So when people arrive at the site they see down the left all the types
when they click they go through to that sections categories, which anyone of those category names can be clicked to display article

Badly need help in knowing the EXACT steps to set this up

      please

This is what ive done so far.. to try and do this..

      1. Created section called cars
      2. Created category called bmw
      3. Created content called bum 2006

Went to main menu clicked New.. link content item

IM using Opensef and setup as Section/Title

So right now on the homepage i have

Cars when its clicked it goes to domain.com/cars/home.html

now on the left its still displaying all the main menu items which are my sections.. I dont want that i want to have it so that its displaying my categories for that section that i just clicked on..

So how do i turn off the main menu on the left JUST for that home.html page and then replace it with a menu which shows all the categories??

    • You'll have to create manual menus and make sure they are assigned correctly in module manager, so:

Create a main menu which is assigned to the Home Page only:

      Cars
      Planes
      Trucks
      Bikes

Make the links for these top-level items go to a static page of info (whatever you wanna show) rather than linking to Category items or you'll get the index page in the mainbody.
Create a "Cars" menu with each of your Categories, and assign this menu module to be displayed ONLY when user clicks "Cars" in the top-level menu:

      BMW
      Rolls
      Audi
      Honda

Then have the Cars menu linking to each content category that you want to display (a list of articles).

Thats the only way to do it as a menu structure that I can think of. You can also do the sub-items as child menu items if your template supports it.
