    Moving my Joomla site...

Posted 17 years 6 months ago
    • Is it possible for me to move my joomla site from one directory to another?

ex. mysite.com/joomladirectory/ to just mysite.com (main dir)

Also am I able to backup up my site by just downloading all the files from my site to my PC?

    • yes, you will have to move or copy (by ftp probally) all of the contents of mysite.com/joomladirectory to your home directory. that database will not need to be changed. all you should have to edit after the move is the config file. you will have to change the location of the site from the joomladirectory to just /

you can back it up that way, but you also have to back up your database. that is probally not the best way to do it
      you might look at extensions.joomla.org/component/option,c...nk_id,665/Itemid,35/

    • Thank you Stew! :)

Now if I move my site to a different server all I have to do pretty much is back up my entire site and its folders along with my database file, correct?

    • You may wish to have a look at Joomla Cloner to simplify the process.
