What would cause "Undefined index: HTTP_USER_AGENT" error?

  • What would cause "Undefined index: HTTP_USER_AGENT" error?

    • What would cause "Undefined index: HTTP_USER_AGENT" error to appear out of nowhere?

I checked this site yesterday: http://tridentvillarentals.com
      No errors then.

Today, I get this one at the top of the page (Firefox, Safari and Internet Explorer):
Notice: Undefined index: HTTP_USER_AGENT in /home/tamiw/public_html/tridentvillarentals.com/components/com_gantry/core/gantrybrowser.class.php on line 30

I haven't made changes in over a week.
      1) How do I fix it?
      2) What would cause it to appear seemingly out of nowhere?

      Template: Panacea 1.5.4
      Gantry: 3.0.12

    • Hi Tammy
I haven't an answer I am afraid just hopping on your band wagon!
I am getting similar errors in my servers error logs

PHP Notice: Undefined index: HTTP_USER_AGENT in ...... /httpdocs/templates/rt_paradox_j15/html/mod_roknavmenu/themes/gantry-splitmenu/layout.php on line 47

PHP Notice: Undefined index: HTTP_USER_AGENT in .../httpdocs/components/com_gantry/core/gantrybrowser.class.php on line 30

PHP Notice: Undefined offset: 1 in .../httpdocs/modules/mod_roknavmenu/lib/common/RokBrowserCheck.php on line 96

Hopefully one answer will solve both our problems :)

      Andrew

I checked your link, thanks btw, in FF3, IE8 and IE7 and can't see the error message. Is it still happening? What does your Apache error log say from around the time you noticed this?

Dan - not sure wether i should have started a seperate question really - just seemed strange that Tami is getting the same error message.

Any idea at all what it actually relates to?

      Andrew

Forgot to say our website is www.asafeworldforwomen.org

Running Paradox template with additional layout hack provided by RT developers ( see this thread) www.rockettheme.com/forum/index.php?f=25...v=viewtopic&start=30

Well not so strange if you Google this error message and see how many hits you get
A lot of those stem from when Joomla upgraded their version# but still many are recent.

It would be nice to see what your Apache error logs are saying occured at the time that you were seeing the error message.

      Hi Dan
      Appreciate your reply
Actually this particular error happened when I upgraded Joomla to the latest 1.5 version 2 days ago.
      I hadn't put 2 and 2 together with that.
I am happy to share the log file
I thought I would just try reinstalling gantry and see what that does...

Also will go look up on Google too

The recurring errors right now are
Undefined offset: 1 in /httpdocs/modules/mod_roknavmenu/lib/common/RokBrowserCheck.php on line 96
Undefined index: HTTP_USER_AGENT in /srv/www/vhosts/asafeworldforwomen.org/httpdocs/components/com_gantry/core/gantrybrowser.class.php on line 30

      Pretty well in that sequence

      Yoorthoughts greatly appreciated

    • Thanks so much for your attention to this post, Dan.

As per your message, the error has disappeared on both Firefox and Safari.
My client is the one with IE, who alerted me to the issue yesterday.
I can't say whether it's resolved there, but I expect it has.

I'm on Hostgator shared hosting. I'll happily provide the Apache error log info if you can tell me where to look!

      Tami
I have no idea if this will help
I decided that I would try reinstalling the Gantry Framework and Gantry Plug in - both of which you can get from the Gantry Website code.google.com/p/gantry-framework/downloads/list
Make sure you choose the right Framework for Joomla 1.5 if you are using Joomla 1.5

Doing this has removed most of the erros I was getting instantly. I still have problems but I will open a new question re that.

Thanks to Dan for mentioning that issues happened when people upgraded Joomal 1.5 to last version.
I only did this the other day and I think it was the route cause of getting the Gantry errors. Reinstalling Gantry (on top of the existing version) seems to have solved those errors

Well as Andrew has mentioned in the post :arrowu: , my next step was to suggest you update you're Gantry to v3.1.10
The only issue here is you would also have to update you're template to v1.5.5 as that one is compatible with the Gantry 3.1.x family.
If this is something you're willing to consider, here's a link for you -> Updating a Template - Even after Customisation

    • Thanks, Dan. I may consider it, although I'll probably have to be pressed to do so now that the site is doing fine. I had far too many problems with a Gantry update relative to the Panacea template already; I hate to fix something that seems to be no longer broken.

I read the link you provided and have completed such a practice numerous times in the past. It is curious to me, though, that in spite of the fact that you guys seem to be Mac fans, you offer 3 Difference/Merge tools for Windows, and you offer none for Mac. Interesting.
