may I suggest that u setup a mibbit client on this site to access the server. it's ajax, works almost on all platforms with no extra download and highly customizeable.
check out the customized version i have on here: muziksupremacy.com/irc
me and Toastguy from #joomla will gladly help u guys set it up and also with some hacks its possible to integrated it with joomla user authentication to auto use the name that's used on the forums.

- Go for it Andy...also, maybe more than just one room...a 3-5 room chat would be cool. This way you can choose what room to hang out in or not hang out in. :cheesy:

IRC, a veteran amongst the Internet chat mechanism's, is not the most obvious means of communication these days. As James points out, it's not that simple to get the hang of eitherIf you have never used IRC before, it may be daunting and difficult to get it working. An easy option is to use Trillian or xchat and here are a simple set of instructions on how to get onOn the other hand Skype is. It's widely accepted and many people have it installed and know how to use it. Why bother installing and learning another piece of software? Using a more modern and more versatile application, might lower the barrier to participate and throws in some additional, convenient features as well like peer to peer file transfer and voice communication. - Pieter-Jan de Vries
