Never heard of Hikashop, and we did VM once in Mynxx. Having rewritten Mynxx several times whenever VM updated and changed their layout, we looked for some interesting alternatives for Mercado. We did the implementation for Ecwid, and it is fully compatible with Joomla 1.5 and 1.6. If you've not checked it out, please do, it's a solid, robust and very powerful ecommerce solution that offers a great UI, and it's easy to setup and configure with lots of features.
redCOMPONENTS did their own styling for redSHOP, as did the Tienda people who did their own styling for the Tienda extension. They just provided us with the required CSS etc.
That said, we can't support every ecommerce app out there, take Mercado, see how these extensions were styled, and style HikaShop yourself. Or, ask the HikaShop people to create style for Mercado.

Is it the free version used or the pro of almost $300 ?
Demo clearly says "Ecwid" in the top right of the menu, not sure how you could mistake this. Ecwid has a 100% free option, which is good enough for most people.

It is one you CAN use, but for the demonstration purposes they used Ecwid) which IMO is a superior solution at a better price (lol). I think this was a momentous release because not only is it supportive of both 1.5 and 1.6 versions, the e-commerce options available are superb. Really puts some strain on VirtueMart and K2Store. Only thing is there is nothing with the color green in the presets...maybe I'll make one and share it.
