Syndicate WordPress Theme

Syndicate Syndicate, the July 2011 Theme Club release, is perfect for any news, media or business type site that requires a clean, conservative but advanced design. The theme is the first to use the 16 Grid Gantry Layout for more control over grid widths and dimensions, for that more compact news structure.

Utilizing the Color Chooser, the theme style can be easily adjusted to any color scheme, in conjunction with 8 presets styles, 6 logo options, and 49 widget variation combinations; the design is truly stylistically versatile. As a Gantry theme, typical features such as the 960 Grid and iPhone Support are also present.

Color Choose: 8 Presets & 6 Logo Styles

Syndicate is accompanied by a Gantry-Admin based Color Chooser. The entire theme styling is controlled by the Color Chooser, utilizing very few images such as the Logo. Set the Color Chooser options from Admin Dashboard → Syndicate Theme → Style. The available controls are listed below:

  • Main Background: Select the Background Color.
  • Header, Logo, Submenu, Body & Footer: Control the Background, Overlay, Text and Link Colors.
  • Logo: Choose from 6 Logo styles.
  • Header: Choose from 10 Header images.
  • Alert: Select Background and Text Color.

CSS 3 Theme

Syndicate uses a series of CSS 3 features to enhance its design. These are only available in CSS3 compliant browsers such as Firefox 3.6+, Safari 5+, Opera 10+ and Chrome 3+. IE9 also is also advertised as supported these standards. However, such features are described as having graceful degradation, meaning if the browser does not support the CSS, the element will not break, just degrade to a simpler standard.

  • Text Shadows: Adds a shadow behind text elements such as Titles.
  • Border Radius: Adds rounded corners to block elements such as Widgets.

Fusion with MegaMenu

Fusion Menu is a menu theme of the RokNavMenu extension, the addon that drives all RocketTheme theme menus. It is primarily a javascript enhanced CSS dropdown menu, that combines standard suckerfish type functionality with animations, transitions and other advanced effects provided by Mootools.

MegaMenu Features:

  • Triple/Quad Column Modes: Have up to 4 columns in the Fusion dropdowns.
  • Child Items Menu Grouping: Group child menu items inline with its parent.
  • Column Width Control: Set the total, as well as individual column widths.
  • Item Icons / Subtext: Add button icons or additional helpful subtext.

Triple Level Splitmenu

Triple Level Splitmenu is a multiple tied menu solution. It differentiates between parent items, 1st level children and all child items thereafter. By splitting these areas in the code, you can position and style them independent. Therefore, the default configuration places the 1st and 2nd level items in the header area, in different rows, and all other items in the sidemenu. All these areas are configurable via the WordPress Widget manager.

Triple Level Splitmenu Features:

  • 1st Level: Parent items are assigned to Navigation.
  • 2nd Level: Tier 1 children are assigned to Subnavigation.
  • 3rd Level: 3rd level items are assigned to the Sidebar.
  • Suffix: Assign any widget variation to the submenu of Splitmenu.

Installation


Downloading the Theme Files

To install the theme, you need two files:-

  • Syndicate Theme (rt_syndicate_wp.zip) - This file is the standalone theme package you will use to install your theme into WordPress.
  • Gantry Plugin (gantry_wordpress_framework.zip) - This file contains the Gantry Framework Plugin and it's required in order to have our themes working.

There are other files that you may wish to download that accompany the release, but are not required for the theme to work.

  • Syndicate Source PNG(s) (rt_syndicate_wp-sources.zip) - This contains all the Adobe Fireworks PNG source files for the theme, and if applicable, the logo font.
  • Syndicate RocketLauncher (rt_syndicate_wp-rocketlauncher.zip) - The RocketLauncher pack is a full WordPress install that contains all the demo content, including plugins and the theme.
Please note that the Gantry plugin needs to be installed first and activated (doesn't apply to RocketLauncher).

Using the RocketLauncher

RocketLauncher includes a FULL WordPress install, in addition to the theme and demo contents. The WordPress installation process is necessary in creating the demo content, therefore RocketLauncher will only work properly as a new WordPress installation. It can not be used on an existing WordPress installation.
  • Download the Syndicate RocketLauncher Package (rt_syndicate_wp_rocketlauncher.zip) from the Syndicate theme downloads section
  • Unzip the zip packaged onto your computer to reveal the rt_syndicate_wp_rocketlauncher folder
  • Upload this to your site using your FTP client
  • Direct your browser to the installation such as www.yoursite.com/rt_syndicate_wp_rocketlauncher or to whatever directory your uploaded to
  • Follow the standard WordPress installation, after which the theme and gantry framework will automatically be activated, along with the sample content.

Using the WordPress installer

  • Login into the WordPress administrator dashboard (http://www.yoursite.com/wp-admin/)
  • In the left menu sidebar, go to Appearance → Add New Themes → Upload
  • Select the Choose File button
  • Locate the rt_syndicate_wp.zip file on your computer
  • Click Install Now
  • Syndicate will now be installed
  • Click Activate under Syndicate Theme

Using FTP

  • Extract rt_syndicate_wp
  • Load your FTP client, such as FileZilla
  • Upload the rt_syndicate_wp folder to the http://www.yoursite.com/wp-content/themes
  • Login into the WordPress administrator dashboard (http://www.yoursite.com/wp-admin/)
  • In the left menu sidebar, go to Appearance → Themes
  • Click Activate underneath the Syndicate section

Installing Gantry Framework Plugin

Using the WordPress installer

  • Login into the WordPress administrator dashboard (http://www.yoursite.com/wp-admin/)
  • In the left menu sidebar, go to Plugins → Add New → Upload
  • Select the Choose File button
  • Locate the gantry_framework_plugin.zip file on your computer
  • Click Install Now
  • Gantry Framework Plugin will now be installed
  • Click Activate under the Gantry Plugin

Using the FTP

  • Extract gantry_framework_plugin.zip
  • Load your FTP client, such as FileZilla
  • Upload the gantry folder to the http://www.yoursite.com/wp-content/plugins
  • Login into the WordPress administrator dashboard (http://www.yoursite.com/wp-admin/)
  • In the left menu sidebar, go to Plugins
  • Click Activate underneath the Gantry Framework Plugin
