Excellent Color Chooser

The ever popular Color Chooser provides a quick and easy way to change the theme's style. Everything is easier accessible from the Admin Dashboard page → Meridian Settings.

An assortment of settings are available in the administrator, with options for both manual input (Hex values) as well as a mootools popup color wheel. Making the color scheme of your choice has never been simpler!

Installation


Downloading the Theme Files

To install the theme, you only need one file:-

  • Meridian Theme (rt_meridian_wp-(version).zip) – This file is the theme package you will use to install your theme into WordPress.

There are other files that you may wish to download that accompany the release, but are not required for the theme to work.

  • Meridian Sample Content (rt_meridian_wp-sample-(version).zip) – This file contains XML file with sample posts, comments etc. and the "wp-content" directory with all images used in our sample content.
  • Meridian Source PNG(s) (rt_meridian_wp-sources-(version).zip) – This contains all the Adobe Fireworks PNG source files for the theme, and if applicable, the logo font.

Using the WordPress installer

  • Login into the WordPress administrator dashboard (http://www.yoursite.com/wp-admin/)
  • In the left menu sidebar, go to Appearance → Add New Themes → Upload
  • Select the Choose File button
  • Locate the rt_meridian_wp-(version).zip file on your computer
  • Click Install Now
  • On the post-install page (with the theme name, description and thumbnail), select Activate
  • Meridian will now be installed

Using FTP

  • Extract rt_meridian_wp-(version).zip
  • Load your FTP client, such as FileZilla
  • Upload the rt_meridian_wp-(version) folder to the http://www.yoursite.com/wp-content/themes
  • Login into the WordPress administrator dashboard (http://www.yoursite.com/wp-admin/)
  • In the left menu sidebar, go to Appearance → Themes
  • Click Activate underneath the Meridian section

Importing Sample Content

This allows you to copy over the data from the Demo so that you can match our setup
  • Extract rt_meridian_wp-sample-(version).zip
  • Upload the “wp-content” folder using your favorite FTP client to your WordPress main directory.
  • Locate sample_data.xml
  • Login into the WordPress administrator dashboard (http://www.yoursite.com/wp-admin/)
  • In the left menu sidebar, go to Tools → Import
  • Select WordPress from the numerous options
  • Click Choose File and select sample_data.xml from your computer
  • Click Upload File and Import
  • Now you can create a new author for sample posts or map it to existing user.
  • Press the Submit button and let the Wordpress do the rest.
Please DO NOT check the "Download Attachments" tickbox as it won't download anything. All images from our demo are provided in a zip package with sample content.

Where can i find theme settings?
  • Login into the WordPress administrator at http://www.yoursite.com/wp-admin/
  • Select the Appearance tab on the left of the dashboard
  • Select Meridian Settings from within the tab
How to change "Welcome Message" (text over Showcase section background)?
Posts displayed over Showcase section background image are located in “Welcome” category. Adding more than one post to this category will result in displaying those posts randomly.
If you haven’t installed our sample content please remember to change the Category in Meridian Settings to the category you created to use for your “Welcome” Posts
How to remove "Welcome" message?
Just go to the Meridian Settings page in admin dashboard and next to the "Welcome" Category → choose None

Alternatively to remove the Welcome message please unassign all posts from category you assigned for your "Welcome" posts. If Wordpress detects no posts in that category it will automatically hide that section.
How to add posts to the "Showcase" section?
Posts displayed in Showcase section are located in “Showcase” category. Adding more than two posts to this category will result in displaying those posts randomly.
If you haven’t installed our sample content please remember to change the Category in Meridian Settings to the category you created to use for your “Showcase” Posts
How to add thumbnails to posts displayed in the "Showcase" section?
Adding thumbnails to the showcase posts is very easy.
  • Enter the Edit mode of post next to which you’d like to display your thumbnail
  • In the section “Custom Fields” from the dropdown menu please choose “thumb” – if it doesn’t exist you have to press “Enter new” to create it
  • In the field “Value” next to “thumb” please enter URL to your thumbnail ie. http://www.yoursite.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/thumb.jpg
For best results thumbnails shouldn’t be bigger then 140px x 76px
To check path to an image please go to the Media page in your administration dashboard, click Edit under the image you wish to use, and copy the path from the File URL field.
How to remove "Showcase" section?
Just go to the Meridian Settings page in admin dashboard and next to the Showcase Category → choose None

Alternatively to remove the Showcase section please unassign all posts from category you assigned for your Showcase posts. If Wordpress detects no posts in that category it will automatically hide that section.
How to add thumbnails to frontpage posts?
  • Enter the Edit mode of post next to which you’d like to display your thumbnail
  • In the section “Custom Fields” from the dropdown menu please choose “thumb” – if it doesn’t exist you have to press “Enter new” to create it
  • In the field “Value” next to “thumb” please enter URL to your thumbnail ie. http://www.yoursite.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/thumb.jpg

  • Enter the Edit mode of post next to which you’d like to display your thumbnail
  • In the section “Custom Fields” from the dropdown menu please choose “thumb” – if it doesn’t exist you have to press “Enter new” to create it
  • In the field “Value” next to “thumb” please enter URL to your thumbnail ie. http://www.yoursite.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/thumb.jpg
For best results thumbnails shouldn’t be bigger then 240px x 100px
How to change the “Read More” text displayed on the bottom of the image in "Feature" section ?
  • Enter the Edit mode of post you want to change that text
  • In the section “Excerpt” type new button text
This works only for posts located in the “Feature” section
How to remove "Feature" section?
Just go to the Meridian Settings page in admin dashboard and next to the Feature Category → choose None

Alternatively to remove the Feature section please unassign all posts from category you assigned for your Feature posts. If Wordpress detects no posts in that category it will automatically hide that section.
How to change Footer post and Author info ?
Posts displayed in footer are located in “Footer” category. Adding more than one post to this category will result in displaying those posts randomly.
If you haven’t installed our sample content please remember to change the Category in Meridian Settings to the category you created to use for your Footer Posts
Next to the footer post are displayed site authors contact details.
  • Below authors name you can display : E-Mail, Jabber ID, AIM, Yahoo IM
  • You can edit those details by editing admin user details in Admin Dashboard
  • If there’s no Jabber, AIM or Yahoo IM defined – those fields won’t be displayed
