Hi,
I host my Joomla sites at
http://www.vdomainhosting.com
they're based in Seattle. Under the vdomainhosting.com basic plan I have a $25.00 per month plan with no control panels, just like the website says, it's web hosting done right.

When people ask for ideal Joomla hosting, there are usually only two things to consider... ask the host:
Do they run phpsuexec? (With phpsuexec, the permissions problems are fixed)
Do they have fantastico? (this is just makes setup faster, and is more convenient)
Everything else, like Safe Mode, Magic Quotes, Register Globals, etc can be set easily via php.ini.

Hey Gollum,
If I am using a VPS how would I know if it has phpsuexec?
Me having a vps is like a 12 year old with a car.

Pull up your phpinfo, and you will notice: "Server API CGI" if you are running phpsuexec.

Yup, and if you aren't, ask your host to install it for you. Apart from the permission problems going away, It is more secure than running PHP as a module.
A few basics to note about phpsuexec.
- On servers running phpsuxec, you will no longer be able to configure Apache via htaccess files, you will need to use php.ini to do things like turn off register_globals or magic_quotes_qpc.
- Your server will choke (with a 500 error) if any file is left with 777 (world writable) permissions.
- There is apparently a slight performance decline when running phpsuexec, although on my own mid-range VPS running a few sites I couldn't tell the difference.
Google is your friend.

I shopped around for a few years on this one, with
bluedomino
(weak),
Site5
(so-so),
SiteGround
(two thumbs WAY down),
GoDaddy
(great for domain hosting, pain in the ass for webhosting), and ended up at
MidPhase
- virtually zero problems so far. Honestly, I've heard horror stories, but two-plus years, and I've had good service thus far. B plus, which is HIGHER than ANY other service I've been with (I used to operate my own ISP too - I know what it takes to run a good one).
I'm going to check out
Rochen
however, based upon the many recommendations here. Thank you!
It's not about cost, considering my entire BUSINESS is floating on a server.
To make a strategic decision over $10/month, let alone $500/month?
That's suicide.
Conclusion: If you want good service at an excellent price - WITHOUT getting spammed to death (like BlueDomino or GoDaddy): Go with MidPhase.
I can't YET recommend ANY other service, and I've literally tried 15 personally over the past 4-5 years.

I've been using MediaTemple for about 6 months now. I started on their GridServer but upgraded to their VPS soon after. Their support is top notch...meaning, that it's 24 hour support, and I've never had a problem calling them at 1AM and getting help quickly. Even though I'm on a VPS, they never seem to have a problem guiding me through any issues I have.
The only issue is they don't have Joomla as one if their natively installed apps. However, that's never really been an issue because they have an extensive knowledgebase that supports Joomla related issues.
I've been happy with them so far.

I´m using
www.hostdepartment.com
and it´s not very good. A lot of lag, joomla freeze, very slow refresh, sometimes the server is down. The support is very good. When i have a slow time, i ask for the problem and in a few minutes is very fast, but in a few hour, is going down.
I don´t have a very good experience with the server

I notice that no one has mentioned Planet. We have had our own server at EV1 and now with Planet (bought EV1) for about 3 years now, and we've always had good experiences with them. We have multiple domains and subdomains. Hardly any down time. Good response to service calls (even from Australia!), although not always fixed the first time. A dead motherboard was fixed in under an hour, which I thought we pretty good. They run cPanel, which works well for me. And we've never had to manually install Joomla on any of our sites. We register our domains through GoDaddy.
Is Planet not liked or just not used?

I'm using Servage.com and GoDaddy.
Servage has been great, 500GB of space and 5TB transfer for $90/yr. You can do multiple domains under your one account - and it's "real" multi-site hosting, unlike GoDaddy's way of doing it, which puts all sites off the main one and aliases the domain name.
I had about 15 sites at one time on my Servage account with no noticeable speed or performance issues, and about 4 of them were Joomla installs, several Wordpress, and a few static/sales letter-type sites. I've had only minimal downtime (maybe 2-3 times for a few minutes) in the almost two years I've been using Servage, much less than any other host I've been on. Speed is good. I currently have all but one of sites cleaned off and redesigning things, but you can check out my one live site at
www.comictools.com
Support at Servage is awesome - fast response times, EVERY time within about 10-15 minutes on all my tickets.
Servage unfortunately recently removed their Joomla autoinstaller, but it is still easy to do a manual install.
GoDaddy's autoinstaller for Joomla is nice, but their hosting doesn't give me quite enough control and there are some things that just don't work for me. I would recommend Servage if you want to build a really robust site (and need multi-site hosting), and need to create folders outside the html directory (good for securing downloads).

Its been said several times already.. but my suggestion would be Rochen.
I've yet to have hassle or issue come from Rochen. You will always find a better price from some cheap service, but the piece of mind with Rochen is worth the few extra dollars each month.
Great customer service and their own active forums are added benefits as well.

The positive reply about BlueHost is surprising to me a my sites are going down daily. I would love to have a resolution to the problem. I have really liked their services up until my using Joomla sites. I have asked their support multiple times if there is something that I am doing or can do to prevent the issues.

bluehost are fine but you are paying for what you get
bluehost were one of my first hosts and out of loyalty i've kept them - you are limited on certain things and if you have a busy site you've got to move but for the smaller sites, or just for space to store stuff they're very good
always read the terms of service would be my advice - sometimes a host might have a good deal or you might think you're paying more for something because it is supremley better but then the T)S could bite you on your arse
