Which forum to install?

Hello,
I'd like to know if anyone had installed a forum with Synapse. I need your opinion regarding which forum to install in terms of: which one is more reliable, easier to maintain and to install and which one won't slow down my site?

I just installed Synapse on 1..5.7 Joomla platform.

I read some articles saying that FireBoard requires Joomla to run in Legacy Mode which slows down the site. I'd like to avoid slowing down the website as much as possible; however, people say that this would be the best option out there?!

I would appreciate any feedback you can share if you have experience installing a forum with this template (or in general).
