Legacy Mode question

This may be a stupid question but:

If I have 1.5 but am in Legacy 1.0 mode, can I use all the 1.0 extensions and plugins then?  There are so many things I want to add but they are only 1.0 now.  I'd love to be able to use them.

I think the extension has to say "legacy"  not all 1.0 will work.  If you try they might not install since the code is different.  The XML won't be read correctly, and give you an Red error.
