Well, I have far too many Macs. But my favorite would have to be:

Spec:
  • Processor: 2xXeon 5365 Quad 3 Ghz - Upgraded by yours truly
  • Memory: 32 GB
  • Harddrive: 4x300GB SAS RAID5
  • Harddrive 2: NAS 16x500GB RAID6 with 2GB Fiber connection
  • Screens: 4x24" 1920x1200

No.: 23rd of 23
Rating: 10/10

Portable Mac
Mac: iBook
Date: August 2001
Spec:
  • Processor: G3 600 Mhz
  • Memory: 384 MB
  • Harddrive: 20GB
  • Screen: 12" 1024x768

No.: 11th of 23
Rating: 10/10

Well, I love my Macs so much that they all have their own names, (actually the reason why they have names are because in this way they are easier to find on my network,) and I am making my Mac-insanity my whole life.

Oh, and I just gotta say. My thesis for my masters degree was about the Mac-culture as a product culture. So the Mac has been a huge influence on my life.

PS: And before anybody start to think of me as an nutcase. Life is all about having fun. I enjoy going this far, so why not do it.

Thor - very nice. What video cards are you running?

I bought 2 of the Dell UltraSharp 2408 Widescreen for my Mac Pro with the upgraded Nvidia 8800GT. I'm thinking of running 3 monitors total and buying an additional 8800GT. According to Apples spec the secondary card would run a bit slower as there is only one One PCI Express 2.0 slot.

I am the Powerbook G4. It is the mac that I have had since 2002.

It is a titanium dream that has never needed a new battery and has only ever had one upgrade and that was a 512mb ram a year ago and it still runs CS3.

A lot like me... because... I am a vintage mac user with some bumps and scratches to prove, I am still running on the dream that made me buy one in the first place, and even when my memory is not so good, I can still trust my mac not to crash under pressure.

I got a 8800 and a 7300 that came with the Mac. As I mainly do video I don't need a high power gpu, except for Motion that I use some times. (Prefer Adobe AfterEffects.) The setup works fine for my kind of work, and I just simply don't have any need for a gpu for ex. gaming.

About your 2nd 8800, I guess it all depends of your need. Do you want it for gaming? Graphics? If it's for gaming... well, it shouldn't be a huge drop of speed, and if it's for for graphics or video your really don't need those cards.

I can honestly say that I have never loved a physical object more than I love my new mac Smiley

I wanted to upgrade to the 3.06 processor, but I couldn't wait to have it custom made. I watched the mac rumors sites for days and was in the store by 10 am Tuesday morning (released on Tuesday not Monday here in Japan, since we are ahead on the clock. It wouldn't do to have Japan get the new stuff before North America!!)

Mac: Mac Mini
Date: April 08

Processor: 1.83GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory: 1GB
Hard Drive: 80GB
Optical: Combo

Screen Sony 17'' 1152x764
Mouse & Keyboard: MS Wireless Standard

No.: 2nd of 2
Rating: 8 to 10 / 10

Not ready to convert just yet, I needed a Mac to test some software.

Considering I already had some spare parts hanging around, the mini was a good choice.

With a new Intel Core 2 Duo, only $599.00 USD, cheaper than if I tried to buy a used Mac or Macbook.

Does exactly what I need it to do.

Pleasantly surprised that I can localize the OS and applications with a click of the mouse, no need to buy another OS and localized applications, dual boot for each language, etc...

That's a huge plus for me considering I need multiple languages.

From the fiddling around I've done so far, beyond the software testing, the OS seems pretty nice.

What I don't like...

Pricing!

To get a 'SuperDrive' which burns DVDs, you're forced to purchase the 2.0 GHz model.

When you configure the 'base model', there's every option EXCEPT an optical drive upgrade.

Granted, it's a little faster (.17 GHz), and the HDD is 40GB larger, but I don't think that and additional $200.00 USD to get the drive is justified.

Launch any application that needs a DVD burner and it tells you it will not function fully.

I feel bad for anyone that purchases the base model and wants to use any of the included iLife software.

Luckily, along with my other spare parts, I had an external case and DL DVD Combo sitting on the shelf, so I'm still smiling.

Upgrades:

See above....

Several years ago I stated some DTP work and it was recommended I try Mac.

I didn't want to dive in head first, so I bought one of the first iMacs, the funny shaped colored ones.

Come to find out the software I needed cost more than the iMac itself, and the windows version was half the price.

All was not lost I thought; it was cheap enough, fun to play with, and I could still do some video editing with it as it was faster than the Windows machine I had at the time... but where's the fire wire port....

No Way!!

There's no fire wire port, that's on the NEW iMac, released just a few weeks after my purchase!

Simple enough, I'll just order a card and install it, they're cheap enough right, only $30.00 or so at the time.

No can do!

The only way to get fire wire in an iMac is to purchase it that way...

BTW, this is not a rant....

Already eying the wireless keyboard and mouse and I've been spending more time in the Mac corner of the local computer shop...

The latest iMac could be my next computer....

Switched from Window$ in Jan 2006. 10mn after powering up my iMac, I wondered why I stayed on PC for the last 18 years...

Now I switched, I do :
- video editing
- imaging editing
- web sites
and more...

all things I couldn't do on my PC IBM Workstation (large one) without pulling out my hair...

Not everything is perfect in this world (many hardware failures on first year) but this machine is up and running 24/7 with no flaw.
Developers on this platform do things slick: Panic Software, Delicious Software and many others. This makes life easier day to day.

Here is the machine I'm working on:

Mac: iMac 20" Intel early 2006
Date: Jan 06
Spec:
Processor: 2.0Ghz
Memory: 2GB
Harddrive: 250GB + 1.5TB RAID1 extern + 1TB RAID1 extern
Screen: 20" , 1680 x 1050 dual with 17" 1280x1024
