"Chip-in" to Feed James?
« on: May 17, 2008, 08:48:43 AM »

http://muffinman.chipin.com/muffin-man

Let's face it; a world without James! going thread-to-thread posting cryptic code and CSS solutions would, for lack of a better word, suck. Wink The guy is godsend to many of us who turn to the RT forums for help.

This is not to saw that the entire ModSquad is not helpful, as I could name a dozen guys who go thread-to-thread helping everyone out; but as James' post count approaches 28K (granted, he often has to post the same solution 3-4 times, as our boy genius is so far above we mortals, his inferential leap that we know what the hell he is talking about is often lost in translation), clearly he has dedicated a great deal of his life helping others. Moreso, with nearly 28K posts, clearly I am not alone.

His birthday is fast approaching and we, the RT community, run the risk of losing him to, oh, girls (or boys, if he bats for that team Smiley) or hanging out with his pub mates eating fish and chips and drinking pints! This would be a tragedy of Shakespearian proportions!

Therefore, I am proposing Andy creates one of those fancy dancy 'Chip in" widgets he created for the RokBridge and we all kick in a few shinnies to get him the best B-Day gift ever. Moreover, I would also propose adding one for each ModSquad member, perhaps linked under the avatar, and we could all 'chip-in' a few bucks whensomeone offers a customized solution to our problem and we feel compelled to give back. This would also serve to incentivize the entire support system.

Food for thought?  Smiley

PS...Ssssshhhhhhhhh, keep this a secret!  lol Smiley (as if the Rocket Scientist hasn't read it already) Smiley

I'm in!!! Smiley

I would be very happy to be able to donate to this most worthy cause.

In a world where there is a lot of pain and heartbreak, James is a beacon of light, helping where ever he can without expecting anything in return. This world would be a much better place with more folks like James around.

Great idea Terp!

Cheers

I concur.  Many times, James goes beyond the call of duty.  I like the idea of being able to reward RocketThemers when they offer a solution, new code, new ideas, etc.

Happy B-Day James!  I think James now deserves a new moniker other than "Muffin Man."  Perhaps something like "Muff Diver" or "Tuna Boat Captain"--something to signify his coming of age.

Thanks again James and gang.

I am going to set it up tomorrow; I had to be sneaky and get James' email address, so I could tie the widget directly to his account. Could we post in the forums, Andy? I am not sure if it I can get the html to work in the forums, so if not, perhaps up top by the 'show off your avatar' plug? Smiley

I thought it worked more like a donation widget; however, I see I have to set a 'goal' or target figure...struggling to come up with a figure.

I think you can set it to whatever you want, still works if the 'goal' is exceeded, right?

Many thanks for your work everyone.

The chipin process was easy. Then again spending money is always easier than making money.

Best of luck!

6% there, 94% to go!  Smiley

Being a numbers guy, I couldn't help but to do the math; if everyone (at the time of this post) who has viewed this thread would have chipped in $2.80, we would have met the goal. Smiley

But many thanks to everyone who chipped in.  My hope was for people who have received help above and beyond the typically outstanding RT support would kick in a few shinies to show their appreciation.

Thanks again, everyone....what a great community! Smiley
