As I ALT tab out of TF2 on my overclocked q9450 9800gtx PC built under the $800 mark, check some emails and some various forum posts, I am once again submitted to the religion of the Mac.
A PC forum for fairness
I think my PC runs the OSX86 project faster than the fastest Mac runs OSX, but thats probably out of the realms of traditional Mac Users. /DIG
He he I have a OC'ed Q6600 lapped and everything, fast Nvidia card and lots of ram.. 24 Inch Dell to go with it... Still I can't wait to get rid of it compared to this nice 3ghz 24" imac... There is soooo much more to a computer besides the specs..
I would compare the two like this "A Trabant with a Ferrari engine" vs a brand new porsche. A normal windows PC will ALWAYS look ugly as hell no matter what casing you got. Even the nicest Lian Li's cases are dead ugly compared to the new iMac
It might be more expensive, it might be slower but besides that it is a much nicer experience than a Windows PC
in my point of view

I have a PC linux media server in one of these:
http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=25_53_412&products_id=6373
beauty is in the eye of the beholder I suppose.
PC hardware is just so much more functional than locked down Mac Hardware. Its just the nature of the beast.

I am not really going to mark you or windows and I agree beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder.. But to be honest eventhough hardware might be more locked down and so on, I actually feel a lot less restricted with a Mac. Over the years I have bought a lot of new hardware and filled my computer with all sorts of new gadgets, but the joy is only there for a week.... and then I feel an urge to get something new.. The magic is just not there. As a friend said to me... Buying a Mac gave him a feeling he had not had since his last Amiga, and I tend to agree. The software is just fun to play with and... oh well I could go on.
Oh well I think it's a feeling you will only get once you pack out your own...

Its really about the "combination" of Apple Hardware and the Mac OS. Separate, they are great, together a work of art.
Regarding hardware, I have yet to find a PC that looks like this and is as easy to service/upgrade:

There is plenty, in fact there are huge PC case databases on the internet with every style and functionality you could ask for.
As for style, substance and features, even the major PC chassis manufacturers have ramped it up:
From the revolutionary:
http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/Product.aspx?S=1240&ID=1418
to the asthetically pleasing:
http://www.antec.com/us/productDetails.php?ProdID=81820
Maybe its because I work on Macs 8 hours a day, or maybe its the restrictive freedom of the Apple brand in general, why I choose to be a PC enthuist - Who knows
I'll stop hijacking this apple fan thread

<MACFANBOY>
I'm sorry and please dont take any offense but the cosmetics of the computer cases you show just don't measure up in style to a Mac Pro nor do they appear to be engineered internally like a Mac Pro. Just my opinion which like you we are all entitled to.
I don't find my new Mac Pro limiting at all. I have 2 DVD/CD super drives in it, 3 PCI Express expansion slots are available, it will hold 4 SATA hard drives (I use 3), 8 DIMM slots for up to 32GB of RAM, On front of unit is one FireWire 800 & one FireWire 400 connectors, headphone jack, 2 USB ports. On back are 3 USB ports, one FireWire 800, one FireWire 400, optical audio in & out, analog audio in & out and dual gigabit ethernet ports. On top of that you can get a $20 cable that attaches to the motherboard so you can run external "eSATA" drives if you prefer.
Really, what more could anyone want? If there was a superior operating system and hardware that cost more than the Mac Pro I would have bought it.

You said that your PC runs OSX86 project faster than the fastest Mac runs OSX, no?
Do you honestly believe that your low-end pc (high-end goes over the $1000 mark) are faster at running OSX86 project faster than the most powerful edition of Mac Pro available?
I find your confidence funny, its clear you've never used proper Mac. Its so fast its hard to keep up with it, and you never take fully advantage of its true power until you do some serious tasks. Namely live HD video editing, running 4+ 30 inch displays, recording 16 channels of loss-less sound.
That is real computer, not like those toys you call pc's

So this could be the thread where I could tell somebody that the thesis for my masters degree in sociology was about product cultures, and the culture I studied was the Mac-culture.
This was also the time when I met a
lot
of pretty fanatical people. That would be Windows users being the most fanatical ones.
I still get comments from people like these ones: "Mac sucks!", "Mac sucks!" and "Mac sucks!". As you see there seem to be some missing creativity among these people as all they can say is the words: "Mac" and "sucks". No wonder I usually just ask them why, and I usually only get one of these two responds: Either, "Mac sucks!" yet another time or they just say: "Because".
This is usually the time where I just shake my head, and start worrying about the future of the norwegian society that will have these people voting in the elections.

WHAT? You don't like the caster chair wheels on the bottom of that bad boy and the beer holder flaps coming out of the top and bottom?
Ahhhh, to be 16 again and overclock my chips, sand my heatsink before applying artic silver and hooking up the water pump. This is analogous to $600 'rice burner' cars that are 2" off the ground, a big "fatty pipe," a sound system that costs 2x the cost of the car, and some spinner rims vs a 'luxury car' with air suspension, heated leather seats, and no outside road noise.
Now thast I have grown up, I am looking for luxury, which is why I plan to get my wife an iMac for Christmas.

I noticed those wheels - You know, if I put a pair of those bad boys on my Mac Pro, I could move that thing around my office all darn day and have unlimited movement!

LOL - I think the comments following my last one say a lot about the community of One eyed Mac users that propagate throughout social forums like this one.
Yes the Case examples I used were the basis of a few more anti PC jokes, and the juvenilistic nature of the comments prove the status of the typical entry level Mac user.
Being a Full time Mac Op and solving a vast collection of issues myself, I will now be sure not to share such knowledge here. Smugness seems to be an artform amongst Mac centic forums and personally it gets quite sickening.
Mac lovers unite?, its a computer.... Over and out (at least in the Mac forums)
