Blog Component?
«
on:

What blog component (free/commercial) would you recommend to use with Joomla 1.5? I am looking for a blog that will seamlessly integrate with the Joomla site.
Thanks!

I like Jom comments, so currently giving MyBlog a test drive...but while the component is now J1.5 native, the modules to create a blog-like site are still requiring legacy. ;(
...might be worth a look down the road.

I'm reserving myself for BlogMan. Unless of course it's a commercial extension- in that case I might just use SOBI2 (w/many tweaks) as my multi-blogging platform. CB + Mamblog isn't that bad either.

Thanks.
I was also told about this new free blog component - JooBlog:
http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,viewlink/link_id,4198/Itemid,35/
Any experience with this one at all?
I think I like MyBlog the best. Wish it had 1.5 compatibility.

Terp, thanks for the reply. What problems are you seeing with the modules?

They all require legacy mode for J1.5. The MyBlog extension that now runs in native J1.5 just cleared beta, but I have a few issues with it; late time I tried the version for J1.0.x, it was pretty solid, as is Jom comment.
If your site is running Joomla 1.0.x, it's a safe bet...all modules worked nicely for me. I suspect they will be migrated over in the not-too-distant future to work in J1.5...

My site is on Joomla 1.5. I am totally new to 1.5 so I don't understand what 'legacy mode' is? I am using MediaMogul for 1.5. So, if I turn on the 'legacy mode', then does that mean that all MyBlog modules will work OK with the Joomla1.5 installation?

Sure, they should work; the main MyBlog itself runs in native, but the modules require the legacy, so by turning on legacy mode, you should be able to install the full package.
I am going back to J1.0.x for awhile, so I didn't play with the modules in legacy mode, just the MyBlog extension itself; jom comment worked perfectly in J1.5, for what it's worth.
I got to the point (when using J1.5) that I almost wrapped a WordPress blog in my Joomla site, given that lack of decent blogging tools.

Thanks. I am thinking of going back to 1.0 for now also. I just realized that VirtueMart does not work with 1.5 yet either. Also, I am unable to do some basic things such as globally turn off the author name and date on articles, etc. I like 1.5 in general, but will wait a few months until all the good extensions have their 1.5 version out.

I'll be really mad if the March RT release is a sweet templete with phpbb3 installed, bridged, and with a matching look and feel as the RT forum...for J1.5 only!

Just as an update to this, I'm running Myblog on a Joomla 1.5 install (
www.onemorething.co.uk/test
) everything working well apart from search engine friendly URL's. Hopefully something should be sorted out soon

I am now, too...Azrul said the modules should be migrated over to native J1.5 soon, which will be nice. It's getting more and more polished with every release.

True, but SEO is the most important factor, currently my article URL's look like this:
http://onemorething.co.uk/test/index.php?option=com_myblog&show=Transferring-your-Time-Machine-backup-to-Time-Capsule-You-cant%21.html&Itemid=1
which is terrible.
Does anyone out there know of a solution to correctly implement search engine riendly URLs?
