Dynamic flash content not showing in article
« on: February 22, 2008, 10:22:08 AM »

Hi all:

I hope this is the correct area to post; other areas did not seem as appropriate --- and I didn't know if it was something related to Hivemind template or not.

In 1.5.1, I am trying to put a Flash file in an article. The Flash file depends on a text file and xml file that feed the order of the slides and the content to this file. However, in using that filmstrip icon to put content in, all it shows is the shell of the file and none of the dynamic content. By the way, if there isn't dynamic content, the swf files appear to work fine.

Here is what I have tried thus far:

*** I copied/pasted the html code from 1.013 to 1.5.1 article, but again same thing --- there is no dynamic content, just the shell.
*** Code clean up is in off position in editor plugin

By the way, I put the Flash file in the same folder as the text and xml file (just below the root), which works fine in 1.013.

For reference: Not working 1.5.1 in Hivemind template at http://www.dahproductions.com/j-stuff/somatoform

Working one at: 1.103 in the Hivemind template at http://www.usupsych.org/index.php?/seminars/case_look_at_what_s_wrong_with_me

Is there something that I need to change in the preferences? Do I have to change something in the editor setting?

Thanks.

Have you tried using absolute URLs for loading the flash code?

Hi James,

Thanks for the tips.  It didn't work.  I went back and made the flash project look for absolute urls.

Also, the embedded flash document has html that looks for the absolute.

I am at wits end.

You know, the funny thing, is that it works in the 1.0.x template - but I have to use that flash icon that is no longer seen in the 1.5 update.

Thanks again

Not sure why they could behave differently, does it occur with the default template?

Hi James,

Thanks for the suggestion.  I changed everything over to the default and also the Beez one as well.  No luck ... the content still does not show.  Did a search via Google and other places, but no luck.

For now, although it might be painful, I might have to hardcode the Flash taking away from flexibility but at least I know it will work.

If there is a fix, I'll post here.

Therefore, it doesn't appear to be a template-base issue. Maybe try http://forum.joomla.org

It seems you are missing the  somatoform.xml file in the folder j-stuff of your template, beacuse in here works:

Hi Fernando,

Thanks for the tip.  I didn't think to try the direct route (or true url call) to the swf file, as I was hoping to have the Hivemind template around it.  But you bring up a good point, in that it does work on direct call.

The "j-stuff" is actually not a folder, it is the name of the menu item housing the menu item "Somatoform".

Is it possible that I cannot use the sef in Joomla 1.5.1?  Maybe, I can try with sh404sef, as they upgraded to 1.5 compatibility.  Just thinking aloud ...

Thanks again ... this is a big help.

Normally I don't use any editors ,I place the html flash code manually, because the editors like tyni myce, replaces the flash version to 6 instead of Flash 8 or 9 having things not working after all.
Try to disable the editor save it, go to the module where flash is  and past the html code that  Flash code had generated  from
<object classid=.......
</object>
Upload the flash file and xml file to the root where joomla is and everything should work, no problem.
When you done you can enable back the editor

Hi Fernando,

Thanks for the tip.  I put the code in as you said, but it still didn't work.  I even disabled the editor (and didn't use one all together).  Funny thing is that it does work in the preview.  For right now, I think that I'll hold on the 1.5.1 migration and keep my original site in 1.0.15 for now.  Thanks.

there appears to be a problem with loading flash swf files into joomla 1.5 when sef is enabled

i have a similar issue, my swf files wont load in 1.5 when sef is enabled. the only one that *will* load is on the home page, when the home page is accessed via just the directory name alone, without the index.php etc in the path.

i have tried the default sef in 1.5, and also 404sef and smartsef, they were all the same. i also have a menu link to the home page on the page bottom menu, and they make this link to a "second" home page, which contains some of the content of the actual home page, but not all of it

i also have gone back to using 1.0 because of this problem, so if anyone has a solution that would be great!!

its not a template issue its a joomla sef issue

http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=428&t=287343

this page has a suggested solution, of using an alias to your domain name (such as the servers ip address and any extra path necessary), and hard-coding the swf urls as complete absolute urls (with the http:// and the entire url to the swf file), rather than the relative path with just the file name as is common. the purpose of the aliased domain name is that apparently, joomla sees that your absolute domain name (to your own site) is to itself, and just replaces it with a relative path (that is, you end up back where you sterted).

so far it seemed easier to just stick with the 1.0 version - even though i had to add a database session handler to 1.0 to make it work on my web server, it still seemed easier!

the joomla 1.0 version of my site is http://www.linkworks.com.au/, i have taken the 1.5 version down atm

an update - my 1.5 site is under continual revision atm so it may not work if you look at it

if you want to replicate the problem, it is present in the latest rocket template (hyperion). i installed a fresh copy of hyperion joomla 1.5 with the rocket launcher. then i created an alias link to the home page in the "othermenu" at the bottom of the screen (so i could load the home page other than just by the hostname/directory name, but with the actual sef filename for it, which is necessary for the problem to occur on the home page - if there was flash on any of the other hyperion pages, you wouldnt need this step). then set the seo settings to on, click on home to refresh and then click on the new home link at the bottom of the page, and the home page will load *with the flash content missing*

surely someone somewhere has installed a joomla 1.5 site that has both sef and flash content?!?! .......

Hi Simon,

You are correct; I just tried to use 404sef without success.  It puts the dynamic flash component on the front page - and appears to 'overlay' it so it does not appear to conform to a module space.  The default sef does not work as well.  While it would be nice to have sef paths, I find that the 1.5 is a better choice overall for me (even though the sef and dynamic flash does work in 1.0.15), so I am now relegated to the long, ugly urls.

If anyone has a solution, please share.
