Rename Templates

I may sound stupid to ask this question as nobody did. But in case for some "egotistic" reason, one would like to hide the name of the template when users view the SOURCE such as ..../template/custom      instead of  ....template/rt_dimensions, for example. Correct me if I am wrong, for paid templates there may not be a copyright issue, but if it's free, it's obvious it will ring a bell.

Say, the vendor of the template allows it to be renamed, could it be possible? I tried renaming some folders and the references to each files inside it but no luck.  Now I don't think it is possible or not, perhaps someone can shed light. Thanks.

you'll probaby need clarification on this from andy, kevin or james but i dont think you can because of this:

because i think the tempalte will reference the xml file, however, i don't know that for sure .. if i did, i'd probably not be here using these templates but i'd be making them myself. i'm not sure about this .. its just a hunch

This question does not sound stupid at all.

I am in the process of creating different names of a RT template so I can assign different style to different part of a website. In a simple way I have to create different copies of the template with different names and assign it to menu option yet I am not removing any of the copyrights in the xml file.

Am I allowed to do this? Otherwise I have to go the hard way of implementing this plan. But I believe I am not violating the term, I hope I'm not wrong!

From my understanding, you allowed to change the name of the folder and name in templateDetails.xml but are not allowed to claim you are the designer i.e. "Design by ... You" or change the author etc... in templateDetails.xml

Could you please share how you rename the template? I tried at the beginning to change the main folder of the template and the reference in the XML file but it didn't work, I mean the new name didn't appear in Template Manager. Thanks.

There was nothing much I did really to achieve this. I renamed the folder (i.e. rt_firenzie to firenzie_s2) then compressed (zipped) it and lastly installed like a new template to J!.

I tried this with Firenzie by splitting the template by style; so I have rt_firenzie_s1 to s4 and assigned it to a menu item.

Because I don't need the other files in each template version I have to remove all the other style specific just to save on disk space and removed all entries from the xml file that reference to all the remove files like images and css specific to the removed style.

Zipped all the new versions and installed to J!.

One thing to note though, make sure you search for the hard coded template name in the index.php and css files.

Hope this help. It is quite painful with other templates.
