Title: Time to choose a photo gallery, need help? Post by: Patrick Toulze on May 11, 2008, 09:03:53 AM The feature of the gallery should:
• Highly customizable • Show all picture format & video, flash, (integration of sound with the gallery will be great) • Easy to manage lot of images/movies etc (batch upload) & possibility of categorize and reshuffle the organisation of multiple categories fast • Ability to customize the access in the frontend— Ex: Thumbnails or directory tree • Stand alone Mac & Window organizer apps for clients with ftp upload will be great. Do you think I can integrate in a special HTML module something like Showit at http://www.showitfast.com/ (http://www.showitfast.com/) Any suggestion? Thanks in advance... ;) Title: Re: Time to choose a photo gallery, need help? Post by: Yves on May 11, 2008, 09:19:18 AM I would use SlideShowPro (http://slideshowpro.net/), with SlideShowPro Director (http://slideshowpro.net/products/slideshowpro_director/slideshowpro_director) and SlideShowPro for Joomla (http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,viewlink/link_id,2135/Itemid,35/).
Title: Re: Time to choose a photo gallery, need help? Post by: MikeMadz on May 11, 2008, 09:23:49 AM wouldn't exactly fit your requirements but close and its free. try expose.
Title: Re: Time to choose a photo gallery, need help? Post by: Patrick Toulze on May 11, 2008, 09:58:56 AM Expose was my startup choice but Slideshowpro seem amazing, I conduct the server Test on Bluehost everything is green to go....
How easy is to implement and can you have multiple instance? and what is this quote from the module on Joomla extension—> ”This module requires Flash MX or greater to generate and requires the SlideShowPro Flash component from www.slideshowpro.net.” Title: Re: Time to choose a photo gallery, need help? Post by: Yves on May 11, 2008, 10:42:09 AM You can use Joomla's copy module function to duplicate the module, and change the xml field for each instance.
Thanks to SlideShowPro for Joomla (soon to be replaced by EasySSP for Joomla! (http://www.joomlashack.com/community/index.php/topic,9698.msg35066.html#msg35066)), installation is really not difficult. There are now two versions of SlideShowPro: one for Flash and one for Lightroom. Quote Software requirements: Extension requires Macromedia Flash MX 2004, Flash 8, or Adobe Flash CS3 (Win/Mac). Standalone SWF version also included for those without Flash. Title: Re: Time to choose a photo gallery, need help? Post by: Roland Deschain on May 11, 2008, 11:38:52 AM IMHO there is no perfect Gallery solution for Joomla at this time. :-\
Of course I could be wrong and just haven't found the right application. I need something that allows users to add photos easily and that integrates with the J login for 1.0. Title: Have you tried PHPWebGallery? Post by: Steven Cherry on May 16, 2008, 11:16:40 PM I tried them all until I ran into this free app, and never looked back. I needed lots of categories with sub categories. I think it supports the formats you list (including video). Can be customized and skinned etc.
Link is here: http://phpwebgallery.net/?lang=en I use it here: http://www.stevencherry.com Click "Portfolio." Title: Re: Time to choose a photo gallery, need help? Post by: CG Icon on May 17, 2008, 01:24:44 AM IMHO there is no perfect Gallery solution for Joomla at this time. :-\ Agreed. perfect would be one that was native to joomla, central community wide gallery but allowed personal gallery to appear in CB with ability to control who views it, one that will allow the user to query his personal gallery from with in ANY Joomla content creation interface ( Like MyBlog or Submit content ) one that a person could access though fireboard to place an image in a post AND OR Allow through the same post the ability to upload an image or file and have that file go to his or her personal gallery and have at that upload time an ability to choose if it should be available in CB AND have the choice to allow it's embed code to appear so commentors can place images on their sites ....an ability to e card community members images.. on that creates slide shows that also generate embed code so that slide show can be placed in their profiles on other communities ( Myspace) with link backs to your joomla site,,, one that creates playlists of gallery files also with embed code,, and one that can compress to flv on the fly at upload most raw and other codecs video files............. is this to much to ask?? :) Title: Re: Time to choose a photo gallery, need help? Post by: Patrick Toulze on May 17, 2008, 05:56:15 AM Not at all, I will ask for more. And we want it free! :)
Title: Re: Time to choose a photo gallery, need help? Post by: Dejan K. on May 18, 2008, 05:19:48 AM I use a long time the Menalto Galley2.
I don't know if is recommended for your need, but take a look http://gallery.menalto.com/features Title: Re: Time to choose a photo gallery, need help? Post by: LiEs on May 18, 2008, 06:01:14 PM I use Expose and SSP
Expose Very sleek. Supports video & images. It looks easy. SSP It is more of a gallery for portfolios and of course a slideshow view. With that said.... I LOOVE ssp. I own ssp + ssp director. You will probably need both to do what you want. ssp director highly uses ajax. You can drag and drop images to organize with ajax. 1 button activate/deactivate albums with ajax. SSP color and looks is highly customizable especially if you know Actionscript. Just go to their website and read their PDF's documentations. Drawbacks: It is a flash slideshow, so looking at tons of images at once isn't too pleasing. Not really for multiple client control. If you want the client to have some control you are better of buying multiple copies of director. SSP directory does have user groups, but it is not good at all. There is only editor, publisher, admin ( or something like that) you can give a person permission to edit images and upload, but it will be for all galleries. You cant limit which galleries they have permission for.Director has 1 license for 1 domain On the upside the new Director coming out will support API which opens tons of possibilities. Even looking at images without using the flash slideshow. Slideshow pro alone without director is alright, but your clients might not like it. You have to manually edit the XML file, and get get messy if you have many galleries and images. Here is an example how customizable it is IF you know flash http://www.lakecrackenback.com.au/ Heres an example if the new api in Director(beta4) http://www.italyapartments.it/admins/director_api_demo/ END: SSP is more for your own gallery rather then clients. Title: Re: Time to choose a photo gallery, need help? Post by: Patrick Toulze on June 06, 2008, 06:41:53 AM I choose SSP and director.
The module to integrate SSP made by Joomlashack don’t seem to work in Joomla 1.5.2 and the last version of SSP ( SlideShowPro_for_Flash_188.zip). Now if I can have some hint on the embedding process to be able to use Director as well....... Title: Re: Time to choose a photo gallery, need help? Post by: LiEs on June 06, 2008, 07:28:16 AM Which way do you edit SSP settings? with adobe flash, or standalone version?
Title: Re: Time to choose a photo gallery, need help? Post by: Patrick Toulze on June 06, 2008, 07:44:55 AM Using flash to transform the .fla to .swf.
Title: Re: Time to choose a photo gallery, need help? Post by: LiEs on June 06, 2008, 08:01:24 AM Upload your swf anywhere convenient in your server. Go to modules, then click on New and create a custom module. then click on Embed media link and put the link to your SWF.
To use director open the .fla and set the ssp setting called xml to 'director' instead of images.xml To access your director its http://xxx.com/directorpath You can't embed director into joomla if that is what your saying. Title: Re: Time to choose a photo gallery, need help? Post by: Patrick Toulze on June 06, 2008, 09:24:21 AM m using XHTML suite as WYSIWYG editor and they will have a flash embed button on the next version....
for now I use: Code: <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=7,0,0,0" id="any" align="middle" height="440" width="600"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <param name="movie" value="http://localhost:8888/joomlagraf/hivemind/modules/mod_ssp/ssp.swf" /> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <param name="bgcolor" value="#131313" /> <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /> <embed src="http://localhost:8888/joomlagraf/hivemind/modules/mod_ssp/ssp.swf" quality="high" bgcolor="#131313" name="any" allowscriptaccess="sameDomain" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" align="middle" height="440" width="600" /> </object> Everything work well now, but the full screen button don’t work... Do you think that way to embeded is OK. Title: Re: Time to choose a photo gallery, need help? Post by: LiEs on June 07, 2008, 11:20:49 AM Yes, yesterday. Do you think that way to embeded is OK. Have a look at DatsoGallery (http://www.datso.fr) Title: Re: Time to choose a photo gallery, need help? Post by: Peter Osipof on June 07, 2008, 11:56:35 AM Translate using Google or Babel Fish
Title: Re: Time to choose a photo gallery, need help? Post by: MikeMadz on June 09, 2008, 07:31:55 AM i need a gallery for one of my site where.
1. users can upload pics in the front end. 2. create their own folders (viewable by others) 3. have comments, ratings etc. 4. preferably free ;D Title: Re: Time to choose a photo gallery, need help? Post by: Patrick Toulze on June 09, 2008, 12:31:38 PM After installing SSP, I Highly recommend it for any professionnal use. For the comment, just add another position and use a free comment system.....
Not free but very good. Ex: http://www.grafcomm.ca/joomlagraf/hivemind/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=45&Itemid=10 (http://www.grafcomm.ca/joomlagraf/hivemind/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=45&Itemid=10) and the backend control is perfect.... I'm not sure whats out there, but I would go either with Gallery2 or Coppermine. Title: Re: Time to choose a photo gallery, need help? Post by: CG Icon on June 10, 2008, 12:27:51 PM the only problem you may have with Gal 2 and Copper is getting a good working personal gallery for members ( if your site is a social community) AND you create additional membergroups besides the native Joomla ones.
other than that Copper is a great solution for site wide gallery AND personal gallery,, it allows private and public view,, e cards and with Stramms BB code plugin allows for embedding images into other communities like myspace and such. Title: Re: Time to choose a photo gallery, need help? Post by: MikeMadz on June 11, 2008, 05:19:18 AM Tried with both gallery2 and coppermine. bridging them with joomla. both needs a lot of tinkering. and both bridges gave me a headache. Lots of errors. i would have picked gallery2. but i lost hope with all the errors that i got. Are there any other galleries that will allow my users to have thier own gallery? And yes CG Icon, my site is a social community.
Title: Re: Time to choose a photo gallery, need help? Post by: CG Icon on June 11, 2008, 12:25:37 PM if social is your goal and I mean a TRUE social community, and you use Joomla and CB ?? no,, there really is not a single solution to create a true social community media gallery,, ( and I do not know why any one has not jumped on this opportunity to make one )
I have gone through every gallery,, patching and hacking,,, all fall short ,, Title: Re: Time to choose a photo gallery, need help? Post by: LiEs on June 12, 2008, 12:08:41 PM Alright I found 2 more.
CB gallery plugin These gives each member their own personal gallery that will be showed only in their profile. It shows that it is only for 1.0, but I just used it for joomla 1.5.3 & CB 1.1. It is in beta phase to use at own risk. I notice *for me* that when I click on a image to view it, it does not work hence beta version, although if I put it on table view rather then default thumbnail or lightbox it works. http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,viewlink/link_id,745/Itemid,35/ Title: Re: Time to choose a photo gallery, need help? Post by: alitissa on June 12, 2008, 04:49:27 PM I use Gallery2 and I don't change it for anything.
In my case thought I didn't need anyone to be a member through Joomla so I integrated Gallery2 with phpbb3 and it works great. I get the images I want to display in Joomla with the external imageblock of Gallery2 with the help of Jumi. In fact I think I won't be using Joomla anymore for this site as I decided to concentrate on Photos and Joomla is not needed that much. :( Title: Re: Time to choose a photo gallery, need help?
