Title: Virtuemart Store using MediaMogul
Post by: Lynette on February 06, 2008, 11:54:40 PM
Website URL www.cyclezoneinc.com (http://www.cyclezoneinc.com)

Additional Extensions (Components, Modules, Plug ins):

  • roknewsrotator on the home page is used to link to products we want to hilite
  • VirtueMart shopping cart and associated modules such as featured products and search.
  • JCE editor
  • Using the banner module  position for store contact information
  • Using the top module position to put a module with a simple table that has links to contact, etc.
  • Artio JoomSEF

Custom Development: I really liked this as it was and need to get the site up quickly.  All I changed was to tighten up the look of the ribbons at the top of the modules and the menu.

Review requests:  Please review for anything that might be "broken" in various browsers.  I checked in Firefox and IE but not the others.

Additional Comments:
This is my husband's store which I recently converted over to joomla and virtuemart.  I had a different template set up but about a week before we were to "go live" the mediamogul template came out and I had to make the change.  The template was almost perfect just the way it was and this is one of the few sites that I have not heavily customized.

I've already handed the daily maintenance over to our store web site manager who is learning how to use the modules and and what not.

Great template to work with, very flexible and fun to work with.  I'm looking forward to incorporating more of the modules.

Thanks!

Lynette

Very nice looking site.. I also ride and have a MC accessory store using Joomla and VM and am really impressed with your site.

One thing I did find was that on the checkout/registration page the TOS link brings up a blank page.

Looks great!!

Thanks for the heads up  on the Terms of Service - I'll make sure that gets updated right away.

Re:  credit cards.  We run them in the store for now.  We're looking into using a gateway to help with international credit card fraud though.

One hard break between the "Shop By Manufacturer" search field and the button would make this site perfect!  :)  Well-done!

Terp, for the "Search by Manufacturer" module, is the search button not down below the search drop down box in your browser?

Perfect RT/VM fit and match, well done Lynette!

It appears to be breaching the field in both IE7 and FF, to me...just thought it could use 5 pixels of grey inbetween. ;)

Excellent, I like the way you set up the products

Thanks!  It takes a lot of playing around to get the pages just the way you like them.  My nephew is managing the shopping cart now and finding creative ways to lay things out.

Lynnette,

It looks great!  I did have one issue though:  Is anyone else seeing a broken layout in Firefox?  I am using 2.0.0.12, and the content appears to the far right of the layout area.  Displays fine for me in IE6.  I would think this is a simple CSS fix.

I'm also on .12 of FF and it displays OK for me..

Maybe it's something about my setup?  I'd really like to know.

That's an interesting screenshot.  What browser and version are you using?  I've never seen it look like that.

Mark is on FF 2.0.0.12.

I am also on that same version and it looks OK to me, also.  If anyone else can replicate the problem that Mark is seeing, please let me know.

Thank you!

Hi Lynette!  See my post above.  Apparently I am unique in my ability to break things. ;)

Mark,

What resolution are you using?  I've seen that kind of thing when the monitor was set to 800 x 600 so maybe this is a similar situation where it only happens at certain settings.

I have a dual monitor setup with both running at 1280 x 1024.  It's worth noting though that the demo page of M.Mogul displays just fine.  Probably not worth worrying about, but you never know.

I see the same in FF 2.0.0.12, The main area is far to the right.

Maybe it's something about my setup?  I'd really like to know.

I am seeing the same thing, using:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.8.1.12) Gecko/20080201 Firefox/2.0.0.12.

Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this?

I am also using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.12) Gecko/20080201 Firefox/2.0.0.12 FlyPaper/RC1)
and Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.12) Gecko/20080201 Firefox/2.0.0.12)

But I can't see the problem.  Normally, I'd go through modules and turn them off and check to see if the alignment problem was corrected, but I wouldn't be able to tell if it fixed it or not.

Thanks for all of the input on this.  I wouldn't even know there was a problem if you all weren't piping in.

Looks like this is a known problem - I just saw this at the top of the solved media mogul forum topics

http://www.rockettheme.com/option,com_smf/Itemid,190/topic,24074.0/

I've edited the template_css.css.

Can someone who was having a problem with the layout on my site please look at it now and let me know if the problem still persists?

Thanks!

Lynette

WHOO HOO!

Just in case anyone is following this and has the same problem,  all I had to do was to add the line below to the bottom of my template_css.css file.

#main-content { clear: both; }

Thanks everyone!

This is a late response, I know. But I'm new. No one else has mentioned it but in FF and IE (6 & 7), I'm geting a horizontal scroll bar in a 1024px window. Looks like just about 15 pixels too wide.

Other than that, the site looks great to me and it's a novel implementation of MM!

Looks fabulous! Well done...was it difficuly getting VM up and running? How many cats, sub-cats and products do you have? How long did it take to build? A friend of mine has asked me to do a similar site for his medical products. I'm at ease with joomla and rockettheme templates, but not VM. I'm wondering how long it took and what would the price range be for a site like yours (sorry for being nosey!)
thanks!
