Title: Read the Demos
Post by: James S! on April 12, 2007, 10:04:04 AM
Unlike most other Template Clubs ...  Andy and Kevin spend much time and effort in the demos for each theme. Everything is carefully planned out and structure so you can understand and more importantly, actual see the power of the template.

Example content and the infamous Lorem Ipsum is not used as a replacement for content but is used to fill in the gaps or demonstrate the typography aspects of the templates. Even with the typography, you will find extensive tutorials on how to use it. The demo is riddled with tutorials in subtle detail. It is organised for easy navigation to these tutorials.

Andy and Kevin do this so instead of asking in the forums and waiting for a response, you can see all the necessary steps and can operate on the new Rocket Theme template much faster than you would be waiting for an answer.

So, when a template comes out, try to resist playing and have a little 5 minute read

Happy Reading  :)

Agreed! I found myself in that mode waiting for the new template, but instead of actually reading thru the Tuts which is a great help, I download start with the template..not seeing the REAL power of the template when I go thru the demos...

Thanx James for the reminder...."Patients" is needed? :-)

Its for important for the Newer templates. There is so much more work put into them. Simply compare an Older template demo with Colormatics - the difference is extraordinary

The level of documentation is getting better with each release. I would say it's almost at the same level of excellence as the templates themselves.
I have one request though, the voice-over on the new flash-video tutorials, don't know who's it is so i'm not trying to offend him.
But i would be ever so happy if RT could have someone like say.....BBC's Suzi Perry do the voice-overs?    ;D  ;)

I think the demo's need to have some easter eggs in them.
You find them and download a neat surprise. :)

Is there a place I can go to get a "foundation" understanding of joomla and templates?  For example, my snowfire template has news and news flashes all over the front page...  I only want one and I want the other spaces to be plane content..  And then, how does one use a news mod?  How does one edit the nav bar? ...  I'm talking basic stuff here....   Is there a place to go?  :P

My basic confusion right now is setting up my current server to support JOOMLA, how do I install this to my server? And once I do this, I know I have to go to the JOOMLA ADMIN to install, but what user and pass do I use?

As for voices, here is a run down from our tutorials....

Andy: http://demo.rockettheme.com/nov07/media/videos/dimensions.html

Mike: http://tutorials.rockettheme.com/video/aug08/logo-editing.mov

James (i.e. me): http://demo.rockettheme.com/jul07/media/video_tutorial/rt_launcher_full.v1.2.html

You can actually here Andy, Djamil and I in this podcast: http://joomlajuice.com/world/306-phpbb3-and-mootools.html

Sometimes its cool to but a voice to a face :)
