Downloading the Template Files

  • TerranTribune Dark Template (rt_terrantribune-dark_j15.tgz) This file is the template package you will use to install TerranTribune Dark into Joomla.
  • TerranTribune Dark Custom Extensions (terrantribune-dark-extensions-j15.zip) This package contains each of the individual custom extensions included in the TerranTribune Dark template release.
  • TerranTribune Dark Source PNG's (terrantribune-dark-sources.zip) This package contains the Adobe Fireworks source png's for making modifications and customizations to the images in the template. You will need Adobe Fireworks image editing to fully utilize the Source PNG files.

Using the Joomla Installer

From the Menu in your Joomla Administrator, go to Extensions → Install/Uninstall.

Next, browse for your rt_terrantribune-dark_j15.tgz file you downloaded and then click Upload File & Install.

Making TerranTribune Dark the Default

installationNext, go to Extensions → Template Manager. Find rt_terrantribune-dark_j15 on the list of installed templates.

Select the radio button to the left and then click Default up in the top right corner. TerranTribune Dark is now your default template.

Additionally, you can also edit the template's customization parameters by selecting this same radio button and clicking the "Edit" button in the top right corner.

Using the Joomla Installer

installationGo to your Admin control panel for your site. In the Menu at the top, go to Installers > Templates - Site.

Next browse for your rt_terrantribune-dark.tgz file you downloaded and then click Upload File & Install. Now TerranTribune Dark is installed and in your template list. You should observe an introductory page in which you select Continue.

Making TerranTribune Dark the Default

installationNext, from your admin control panel, go to Site > Template Manager > Site Templates. This will pull up the list of your installed templates.

Find TerranTribune Dark on the list and select the radio button to the left and then click Default up in the top right corner. TerranTribune Dark will now be the default template.

What is RokMininews and how do I set it up?
This is the module on the demo's frontpage - it is the multi-coloured block with sections such as World and Tech. RokMiniNews loads articles from given sections in the module's settings and displays them in this dynamic fashion. Note that on the demo, we are using 5 instances of the RokMiniNews, we simply copied the module inside Joomla. How does the left and right columns function?
The left and right columns have a complex structure. We have 5 modules for each column and I shall explain them. We have the standard full width left and right modules which appear in the middle of the block. We then have 2 modules on top and 2 modules on the bottom.

These top and bottom modules expand and contract. For example, in the right column, we have the right2 and right3 positions appearing above the right position. If there is a module assigned to right2 and not right3, right2 will expand to the width of the full column. Therefore, left2/3/4/5 and right2/3/4/5 have a dynamically changing width.

The width of the left and right positions are controlled in a toggle in the template's configuration.

This layout is typical of advertising blocks on many sites.
How do I enable the hidden positions such as the logo?
You can enable/disable these positions in the index.php configuration (if you are using Joomla 1.0) or in the Joomla Template Manager (if you are using Joomla 1.5). For information, see either or all of the following:-
How do I setup the Bottom menu?
For the bottom menu, you will need t use the following settings in Admin > Modules > Site Modules > Other Menu (or whatever menu you wish to use) :-
  • Position: bottom
  • Menu Class Suffix: -bottom
  • Menu Style: Flat List
Note that -bottom is not a module class suffix but a Menu class suffix.
