Installation - Joomla 1.5


Downloading the Template Files

  • Perihelion Template (rt_perihelion_j15.tgz) This file is the template package you will use to install Perihelion into Joomla.
  • Perihelion Custom Extensions (perihelion-extensions-j15.zip) This package contains each of the individual custom extensions included in the Perihelion template release.
  • Perihelion Source PNGs (perihelion-sources.zip) This package contains the Adobe Fireworks source PNGs for making modifications and customizations to the images in the template. You will need Adobe Fireworks image editing to fully utilize the Source PNG files.

Using the Joomla Installer

From the Menu in your Joomla Administrator, go to Extensions → Install/Uninstall.

Next, browse for your rt_perihelion_j15.tgz file you downloaded and then click Upload File & Install.

Making Perihelion the Default

installationNext, go to Extensions → Template Manager. Find rt_perihelion_j15 on the list of installed templates.

Select the radio button to the left and then click Default up in the top right corner. Perihelion is now your default template.

Additionally, you can also edit the template's customization parameters by selecting this same radio button and clicking the "Edit" button in the top right corner.

installationGo to your Admin control panel for your site. In the Menu at the top, go to Installers > Templates - Site.

Next browse for your rt_perihelion.tgz file you downloaded and then click Upload File & Install. Now Perihelion is installed and in your template list. You should observe an introductory page in which you select Continue.

Making Perihelion the Default

installationNext, from your admin control panel, go to Site > Template Manager > Site Templates. This will pull up the list of your installed templates.

Find Perihelion on the list and select the radio button to the left and then click Default up in the top right corner. Perihelion will now be the default template.

How do I enable the hidden positions such as the logo?
You can enable/disable these positions in the index.php configuration (if you are using Joomla 1.0) or in the Joomla Template Manager (if you are using Joomla 1.5). For information, see either or all of the following:-

For information regarding the starbucks area, read the following tutorial. Note that the shaded area behind the text is generated from the image itself, so you would have to include that in your images if you want the same effect.

How do I setup the Bottom menu?
For the bottom menu, you will need t use the following settings in Admin > Modules > Site Modules > Other Menu (or whatever menu you wish to use) :-
  • Position: bottom
  • Menu Class Suffix: -bottom
  • Menu Style: Flat List
Note that -bottom is not a module class suffix but a Menu class suffix.
