Mixxmag Mixxmag is the first of our dedicated 1.5 only templates, using the full power of the Joomla 1.5 framework. The amazing template override facility is in full effect, combining our recurrent tableless template design with tableless overrides of the Joomla core.

Amazing New RokFeature Module

Mixxmag showcases the new RokFeature module. RokFeature is a sophisticated content slider/rotator. Whether through automation, or manual input, you can scroll through the various articles viewing both a large image with its accompanying text. Hidden panels allow you to showcase both lengthy text items as well as the large image to use your real estate for optimum impact.


Incredibly Flexible and Versatile

Mixxmag offers a wide array of module positions and layout configurations for displaying your content. 32 module positions, collapsing columns and module positions, and a lean css based layout with template overrides that remove Joomla's core output of tables, provide a multitude of layout options. Mixing and matching module positions, module hilite variations, and configuration options allow you to create a great many different looks and layouts with just a single template.

Installation - Joomla 1.5


Downloading the Template Files

  • Mixxmag Template (rt_mixxmag_j15.tgz) This file is the template package you will use to install Mixxmag into Joomla.
  • Mixxmag Custom Extensions (mixxmag-extensions-j15.zip) This package contains each of the individual custom extensions included in the Mixxmag template release.
  • Mixxmag Source PNGs (mixxmag-sources.zip) This package contains the Adobe Fireworks source PNGs for making modifications and customizations to the images in the template. You will need Adobe Fireworks image editing to fully utilize the Source PNG files.

Using the Joomla Installer

From the Menu in your Joomla Administrator, go to Extensions → Install/Uninstall.

Next, browse for your rt_ mixxmag_j15.tgz file you downloaded and then click Upload File & Install.

Making Mixxmag the Default

installationNext, go to Extensions → Template Manager. Find rt_ mixxmag_j15 on the list of installed templates.

Select the radio button to the left and then click Default up in the top right corner. Mixxmag is now your default template.

Additionally, you can also edit the template's customization parameters by selecting this same radio button and clicking the "Edit" button in the top right corner.

How do I enable the hidden positions such as the logo, footer, toolbar and top?
You can enable/disable these positions in the Joomla Template Manager. The Logo, the RocketTheme logo in the footer, the menu system in the toolbar and the date are default elements within the template. However, if you do not require these elements such as the date, you can disable them in the configuration. Once disabled, the elements automatically switch to a module position. Therefore, you can publish items more apt to your site in these areas without ever touching the template code. Similarly, you can leave them blank. More Details...
How do I setup the customised content display on the Frontpage?
The main customised content items on the frontpage, such as the Feature Thumb (the side banner image floated over several content images); the Frontpage Article Conent (the articles that appear in the central block on the homepage); the MoreNews Content (the modular content appearing in User4) and the Previous Issues Content (also modular and located beneath MoreNews Content); are explained on the Demo Content tutorial on the demo which is linked below (More Details). What is RokModTools?
As you will notice in the Mixxmag template, there are various javascript tool items placed in the modules. They perform 2 distinct functions, the first providing a tooltips dropdown were you can select from the hilite options available (stored as a cookie in the user's browser and not in the configuration which has to be set separately in the manager) and the plus/minus icon which allows you to expand/collapse the module content.
How to reset the stored settings in the browser?
Whenever you make a change on a module with RokModTools, the setting is stored into the cookies. To restore the settings to default you can either clear the cookies from your browser or click on the "Restore Default Settings" link, positioned on the bottom of the page, next to the copyrights. If you chose to reset the settings by the link, a popup will advice you and ask if you want to reload the page. Clicking Ok button will make the page reload, otherwise you'll see the changes from the next page load.
