Bridge with SMF

My Joomla install has a bridge between it and my Simple Machines Forum. I need
to be able to add code to the Template index.php file to make the bridge work
properly...
I have not been able to as it seems the attributes are somehow locked. Is this
the case?
Is there a way around?

- nothing should be locked but you may have a permissions issue on your server ...

Install this on your system and you can modify just about anything without FTP:
