Intense Debate commenting system on your Joomla 1.5 site
13 posts • Page 1 of 1
Here is a nice trick/tip to get Intense Debate on your Joomla 1.5 site with ease
http://www.intensedebate.com/
step.1 first off read about Intense Debate and sign up
step.2 add your site to Intense Debate by going to add blog
step.3 click Generic Install
step.4 grab the javascript code to put on your site - it looks something link this
please do not use this code on your site as it is just an example
step.5 goto the admin of your joomla site click on module manager
step.6 add a new module by clicking the green plus symbol at the top right and select custom html
step.7 paste in the javascript code you got from Intense Debate and create a new position (in this example Im going to call it comments and call the module comments as well)
step.8 create or open an article, now what we are going to do is add the module we just created with the following code
put this where ever you want your comments to appear
step.9 save your article and now view your page that you have put the code on.
hope this is easy to follow
i will be on hand to answer any questions on this
a demo of this in action can be found here http://www.electric-circus.net/20080918 ... -the-month
if your site has a module position below your main content you can just create a custom html module paste in the javascript code and select it to the module position that you want.
if you want comments on other articles all you have to do is put the {loadposition comments} code within the page. Intense Debate knows that the code is on a different page and will display different comments
you can create differnet modules for differnet sections so if you ever want to switch comments off for a whole section
just name the module a different name like comment1 and paste in {loadposition comment1} into the pages that are in that section.
you have also just learn't how to post modules within your articles as well

Matt,
I'm trying out http://www.simplweb.com/ and I followed your tutorial. As you can see at http://hes.simplwebsite.com/j-stuff/news I was able to add a "comments" module, use the "comments" position, and I assigned it to the "news" menu item.
How do I get rid of the comment at the end of the news section?
If I do not want this set for any particular section, but rather wanted to use the {loadposition comments} on a per article basis how would I do that? If I do not have some menu assignment in the module settings things do not seem to work?

Andy has written two plugins for IntenseDebate (a content plugin and an editor plugin), you can download them here: http://www.rocketwerx.com/component/con ... schmuggins

Yup, but you can't upload plugins at Simplweb. It's a turnkey solution.
I guess I'm not understanding why the script does not work if you have the module enabled but no menu assigned. I'm happy to insert {loadposition comments} on a per article basis but it does not seem to work.

Hello, I'm attempting to customize the terrantribune template, installed at: harveycountynews.com. I have signed up for intense debate. I followed Yves's link but got a 404.
Is there any way to automate the addition of comments more than the reply above by Matthew Reilly? (Thanks to all btw and happy new year)

I'm using 1.5 btw.
url is harveycountynews.com
I'm wondering where a resource for installation proceedure might be as I'm a complete newbite.

Okay, it is probably somewhere else on this site, but after a little research I found the information.
Just to summarize for any other newbies that find this post...
You might be confused by the terms extension and plug in. I was wondering what the difference is. I found that by going to the extension manager I could upload the zip files above mentioned; then go to the plug in manager to enable them. Once enabled, be sure to "edit" the content plug in for rokintensedebate and add in your own id or account number that you've recieved from the generic code for your site that inensedebate.com gave you after your registration.
Thanks all, cheers and many more questions to come. Thanks again Yves. Have a nice day!

I've completed the above mentioned steps, but do not find, the button for inserting the comments system to the end of an article. I've gone into an article to edit it, such as "logo editing" in the sample data and attempted to add the comments system to the bottom of the article, but do not see a button to add it with. My button however is enabled.

It should be next to the Read more... button, bottom left.
Make sure Button - IntenseDebate is enabled in Plugin Manager.
