Why does Google hate Jamboworks.com?

I have no clue why we do not show up in standard google search results for "joomla templates".  We do show up with the adsense banners, but why we don't show up in the regular search results is beyond me.

Does anyone have any knowledge as to why our SEO is so lousy???

If anyone can find a way to get jamboworks.com onto page 1 i'll give them 1 year of access free.  If they can get us to #1 spot i'll give you $200 cash too!

First change "Premiere Joomla/Mambo Template Club Professional quality designs."
to "Premiere Mambo and Joomla Template Club. Professional quality designs. New Joomla Templates every month".

Add 'Joomla Templates' to the keywords.

Mention 'Joomla Templates' on the homepage. Currently plenty of 'Joomlas' and a few 'Templates' but no 'Joomla Templates'.

Try Googling for 'Joomla Training'. You are near the top. Do the same for 'Joomla Templates'.

You'll be pushed to get first position with www.joomla-templates.com around.
How about $100 for second place ?  ;D

Not only Jamboworks.com but more sites with your (absolutely great) templates are invisible for Google. I'm glad you did find out yourself. I have about 10 mambo/joomla sites and only the sites with your templates have an Google problem. Think think!!

I really don't think it's even possible for it to be a template issue.  Quite likely it's caused by content, meta tags, urls etc.  Already got a couple of folks sending me some good information so i'll be going through it and evaluating what I'm missing. Keep up the ideas!

Everything looks fine to me.  If I search for "Joomla Templates" (with quotes), jamboworks.com is the 3rd link on the right under "Sponsored Links".  If i just search for "Joomla", you're the 4th link.

Since i installed sf_advance in my site and start to have some litlle extra work putting tags in all content items my site jumped to googles 1st page and 1º in msn.com for the keyword i need.

External links from wigh pagerank is a good thing also, try to put your site in all joomla directories/top sites, and always put a link to your site wen writing in foruns, comments, etc.

its hard to understand SE, especially google, in my case i have shitty sites in top of me just because they are hosted in geocities, lycos, and a regional portal. google almost doesnt see the diference bettwen geocites.com and geocities.com/mysmallshittyesite

hope it helps..

I think Steve is right on the money.  I was going to say the same thing (I have a slow trigger  ;D ).  I too think the slash is causing a problem in the title.  I know google ranks pages higher that have meta titles and page titles that agree with each other.  I know I've personally bumped my site up a few ranks by doing this.

Dear Andy,

Please apply these moves. Remember, there is no one answer, its many, many factos working on a cohesive manner.

You have a challenge, you design for the consumer base, but you need to address SEO + SEM points.

Meta Tags
1) Your title needs to address the appropriate key words you prefer. ( Bad title)
2) Witihin you Meta Tags, your keywords focus more on Mambo, than Joomla. Add more. (No exclamation points)
3) I became your customer from the MamboDev.com days. Please ask your existing customer base to change their footer notes that read www.mambodev.com  (Example: http://www.centrodeportivo.com ) You will be surprise how this will assist your backlinlk and that new link write: "Jambo Works Joomla Templates"
4) As mentioned above, this is not a template issue. You lack the fundamentals of SEO SEM
5) Place your web site at directory www.dmoz.org - This should eventually get you into Google's Directory
6) Your Post - Go back to your entries and fill in the descriptions and keywords.
7) REMOVE THIS FROM YOUR Meta and replace <meta name="title" content="Frontpage" />)
8) Look at your description = use PLURAL TERMS whenever possible

<meta name="description" content="High-quality custom Joomla!/Mambo templates,
the premier Mambo Template Club, training, professional development services and products." />

9) Keywords - From point #2 - Mucho Mambo - *** Nobodys searches Joomla with exclamation point, Remove "!"

<meta name="keywords" content="jamboworks, Joomla!, joomla, mambodev.com, template club, templates, template, mambo templates, custom mambo templates, custom mambo components, custom mambo modules, free mambo templates, mambo demo, templates demo, mambo skins, free download, mambo addons, download templates, portal, forum, weblinks, tips, tricks, help, PHP, MySQL, web development, graphic design, mambo, mambo open source, Mambo, Mambo Open Source, CMS, cms, MOS, mos, downloads, files, templates, news, modules, training, mambo training, joomla training, online training, developer training, user training" />

10) Slash in title does not help us the visitors, not to mention ithas no value from search perspective. OUT.
11) Open the Syndication Module on all pages.
12) Every page should have a different title. Never repeat your title or meta tags.
13) Focus on forum to assist your optimization.

I agree with the 'title' and 'meta' suggestions above (they were the 1st places I checked).
So take out the forward-slashs '/' they are probably causing the confusion.

And an explanation (I think).

I know how you feel, there are days, months even when I hate google  ;D
The number one google result shows in google as having 457 links pointing towards it, in yahoo it shows 34,600 back links and has the keywords joomla templates in it's url. If I search your url it shows that you have 95 links pointing to you in google and yahoo shows 5,430, you need to get more back links preferably all one way but not too fast as google penalises you if you suddenly get a load of them and don't get them from anywhere like "link vault".

Google works on keywords. Your front page barely mentiones the word templates at all. Further to that you don't advertise that you designed the default template for joomla.

You mention Joomla plenty, you mention "Professional Joomla Solutions" quite a lot too, but it's almost as though you are afraid to say the word template.

if you want to be higher in google for template search you have to tell google that you have templates.

Further to that, without getting into politics, if you want to concentrate on Joomla more than Mambo then change your wording from Premiere Mambo and Joomla! Template Club, to 'Premiere Joomla Template Club. Templates for Mambo and Templates for Joomla."

The more you reference the word in your content the more google will recognise that your site relates to templates.

From that too, mention tha you made the default template. People think Solar Flare is fantastic so why not put it somewhere on the front page that you made it. People who are casual visitors or looking for templates will see that and think "hey this guy made that default one okay I gotta go in and see what else he can do"

Your front page is more an advertisement for Joomla rather than an advertisement for your skills and talent at making templates. I'm not saying you can;t advertise Joomla, but they do have their own site to do that. Maybe you could downsize that somewhat and focus a little more on your templates?

This too will help in google recognising that your site isn't just an extention of Joomla but rather is an independant site that makese templates.

My thoughts

Andy,

If possible, this will benefit us all  -  Unique page description and keywords.

We are already filling in the page descriptions and keywords so thatit can work well withsearch module...

Why not let every page be unique and extend those descriptions and keywords into the Meta Tag for the page. Exactly like MS Frontpage functions.

The Truth - Every page has the same web site default maeta tags from global configuration.
