    RocketTheme Update 11/14/2017

Posted 6 years 5 months ago
    • Hello everyone,

We’re hot off the heels of a great Halloween sale, and we’re well into the development phase of our next template.

Over the past several weeks, we’ve made some important updates to Callisto, including creating particle alternatives to elements that previously relied on RokSprocket. This update not only applies to the new Grav release, but to Joomla and WordPress’ versions as well.

Some bug fix updates to a half-dozen Gantry 4 templates have also been completed.

      What's Ahead

Looking forward to our next theme, we are very excited about the new design. We’ve taken a lot of the feedback from you in the forums and created something great.

While, as always, we are unable to provide an estimated release date or design preview, I can confirm that this new theme is very different from anything we've released recently.

      Thanksgiving and Beyond

Our favorite time of year is rapidly approaching, and we love spreading holiday cheer. • Thank you for the update. I have a Joomla site built with the Callisto theme. Is there an advantage to using one of the new particle alternatives—the Features Slider, for example—over the same funtionality built with RokSprocket?

On the surface, you get less flexibility with the particle in its included form. RokSprocket is a versatile plugin and you can do a lot with it. That isn't to say you can't expand on the particle. Doing so is quite easy if you have a little YAML and Twig know-how. But, out of the box, for non-developers, it does less.

BUT... and here's where things become use-case specific, particles are light weight as light weight gets. There is no additional extension to manage and tinker with, and setting it up involves filling out a simple form with little learning curve.

So... yes and no? Nothing that jumps out as being a must-have bonus, but if you don't need all of RokSprocket's features to run that slider... you don't have to use it.
