I saved a small edit to my override file and the next time I loaded the page, formatting hell broke loose. I reverted to earlier known good versions of the override template, but the problem persists.

I have NO clue to what your "override file" is, can you be a bit more specific?
That'sthe above page, but the whole site is screwed up.
Your rt_chimera-custom.css is empty? I was under the impression you had code there? The pagesurround is set to a dark colour and I take it that it was a light colour before the "incident"
Most are harmless but these are PAGE-KILLERS -> "No p element in scope but a p end tag seen"
This means you've got an unbalanced <p> tag somewhere's.
Start Unpublishing your newest content one at a time and run the Validation link. If the error disappears you know there's something wrong with that content.
Wow. Thanks Dan. That is very strange. I use the FTP in Notepad++, which seemed to save correctly but apparently somehow kept saving an empty file. I restored it via another FTP program.

I see that your using J3 so there is an easier way to enter custom code. See my guide, Your first CSS custom file - OR - LESS custom file
and check out the section about editing your custom CSS in your Template Manager
