    • OK, so I downloaded the JoomlaPack 2.0.1 and it all looked good up until I tried to back up...got the below error message.

Invalid AJAX Response:r />Fatal error: Call to undefined method JDocumentRAW::addHeadLink() in /home/vmwusa/public_html/plugins/system/rsd.php on line 76

Any idea on what I should do?

    • Do you have access to the host that your Joomla site is installed on?

My joomla site is on a Linux system to which I have shell access, I realize that not everyone has this kind of access to their hosted space. JoomlaPack sounds nice, I have yet to actually use it however...but I am planning to look into it.

I set up a cron job (scheduler) on my Linux server to backup my joomla site and dump my Joomla MySQL db as a textfile into a .tgz file (archive file) once a week. If I know that I am going to do maintenance, then I just kick off my script manually before I touch anything to get an immediate snapshot of the site.

If something gets hosed, then I just restore both and my site is back up and running in minutes. This would be the ideal way to go. So my method is scripted, but it is no less difficult to do it manually.

    • Thanks for this thread. Very informative.

I have the Terrantribune template installed and am in the process of customizing it.

I believe it is a joomla 1.5.8 version running currently.

I've downloaded the zip file of the 1.5.8 to 1.5.9 upgrade package in order to update to the latest stable release.

Last night I downloaded that stable release from two sources; I could get success with neither.

It could be that I'm attempting to install incorrectly.

I went to the admin, to the extension manager and uploaded from my machine. I got an error message.

I am sorry if this is too much of a newbie question but I've looked and have not found a good lesson on upgrading from 1.5.8 to 1.5.9.

Since it is TerranTribune I'm hopeing you don't mind me asking here.

Thanks ahead of time for your time and consideration of my request.

BTW. I am using Intensedebate so I rolled my site back to legacy mode and thought possibly that could have something to do with it and/or how I'm attempting the install. Possibly I should ftp the zip up and extract it in a cp? - Cheers,

    • Hey Tyson,

When doing upgrades of the Joomla system, the procedure is to FTP those new files replacing the old ones. These aren't done through the install feature in Joomla's admin backend.

It's always a good idea to make a backup of your files before you do this just in case things do go wrong. I definitely recommend this when you're running in legacy mode. There are a couple extensions out there that require legacy mode and do not cooperate with the newer versions of Joomla 1.5.8 and up.

    • Thanks guys, so I took it out of legacy mode and then ftp'd the files.

The only thing that hung and didn't overwrite successfully the first time was in the templates folder so I went to the file manager through my cp and changed the permissions so that everyone could write and tried again. Low and behold everything worked like a charm! ~

      I appreciate your help.

    • There was one fix issued for the more current templates we have but that has already be put in the download files. Just go download the new one today.

As for other issues, I haven't noticed any yet, but I still haven't used it with a ton of extras.

I'll be working on sorting out this post to offer more info here shortly because I want it to be a good place for everyone point out issues.
