RokNewsPager

AJAX Powered Latest News Display RokNewsPager is an article previewer and rotator. It displays content articles, in a summarised form and, using mootools based javascript transition, rotates through a series of pages displaying articles in a contracted list format.

RokNewsPager allows you to display a large number of news items and links in a small compact area via its paging functionality and includes a multitude of configuration options and parameters to customize how your news is displayed.

K2 UPDATE: RokNewsPager has been updated to be compatible with the K2 extension.

K2 is a content construction component which allows you to create custom content types in your Joomla Site. The component drastically expands the power and functionality of Joomla content. Download from K2.JoomlaWorks.gr

NOTICE: In order for RokNewsPager to work, you need to install the RokModule component which facilitates the AJAX used in the module. You can download it from the Extensions section in RokDownload.

History

RokNewsPager first made an appearance with the May 2009 Joomla Template Release, the SolarSentinel template. As the May template was demoed as a News template, it was seen as appropriate to create a module geared towards previewing articles

Installation - Joomla 1.5


Downloading the Extension Files

  • RokNewsPager Module (mod_roknewspager.zip) This file is the module package you will use to install RokNewsPager into Joomla.

Using the Joomla Installer

From the Menu in your Joomla Administrator, go to Extensions → Install/Uninstall.

Next, browse for your mod_roknewspager.zip file you downloaded and then click Upload File & Install.

Accessing the Module Page

Next, go to Extensions → Module Manager. From the list, find RokNewsPager and open it to be brought to the RokNewsPager Module Manager page, which lists all the available options for the module.


Configuration

RokNewsPager is a highly configurable module that allows you to control the various aspects of its appearance and functions. Details of each options are as follows:-

Count: This setting controls the number of preview articles to be displayed per showcased page in RokNewsPager.

Max Pages: As the module has support for multiple pages, you can set the number of maximum pages with this parameter. You can scroll through the pages with the inbuilt navigator.

Order: Choose the order of how your content is shown, from recently modified first to recently added first.

Preview Length: The module is a previewer of your Joomla articles so this setting allows you to set the number of characters to display from the content item itself. This does not include HTML tags, just text characters.

Author: With this option, you can select a particular Author, in which only their content items will appear or you can set to all.

Auto Update: Set the module to automatically update its content via Ajax. When disabled it will change on refresh if new articles are created that match the module criteria.

Auto Update Delay: Set the delay, in milliseconds (1 second = 1000 milliseconds), between automatic updates.

Frontpage Items: This option enables you to show frontpage articles or not.

Section: Choose the section you with to load the articles from.

Category: Choose the category you with to load the articles from.

Requirements

RokNewsPager has the following requirements in order to operate:-
  • Joomla 1.5x - ensure you are using the latest version
  • RokModule - this is a free component that we offer that facilitates the use of Ajax, you can download it from the Extensions section in RokDownloads.
