Great Training Resources for Beginner Developers in 2016

Getting started in web development has never been easier. There are tons of great resources out there that you can start using right away to get started on your journey in web development.

In a previous guide, we went over some great online courses that you can take to help you get started. That was a couple years ago, and there are even more options today.

For several of them, we have organized an exclusive discount available in our Perks page for our members. All you have to do to get access to these deep discounts is be a RocketTheme customer logged in to the site.

Let’s get started, shall we?

OSTraining

OSTraining is one of the leading online training sites on the Web for anyone that wants to learn more about Joomla, WordPress, Drupal, and even more general topics like HTML and SEO (search engine optimization). With over 500 live classes given, and an entire library of video courses to help you get started, it is definitely worth looking into.

OSTraining has several free courses to get you started, but its more detailed classes require a subscription, which start at $25/month. But don’t worry, RocketTheme customers can save up to 40% using our coupon code found in the Perks page.

Free Code Camp

The folks at Free Code Camp have put together an incredibly interesting online training resource for beginning developers that you can use to build your skills in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, database management, git and GitHub, Node.js, React.js, and D3.js.

Best of all, it’s free. Yeah, totally free.

It’s also very unique in how it teaches you how to code. Like a physical camp where people gather and work together to hone their craft, Free Code Camp is a community of 200,000+ developers that work together on projects and build app portfolios. Even more interesting is that while you are learning, you’re also helping nonprofits.

Free Code Camp has curriculums to help you get started, and projects to help you refine the skills you’ve learned. Once you have completed the Free Code Camp curriculum, you will have over 2,000 hours of coding experience, as well as four certifications to add to your resume along with your portfolio from the camp.

So while you’re learning, you’re helping both yourself and nonprofits by building projects that they actually need.

Creative Live

Creative Live is well known among the professional creative community for its live recorded classes hosted by experts in their respective fields.

What you might not know is that Creative Live has a good number of detailed courses in the area of web design and development. This includes classes that are specifically designed to help a newcomer get started with WordPress.

Classes are filmed and broadcast live on the website for free, but you can access classes after the fact by purchasing the class. This purchase includes any additional materials and demo content that were used in the course of the lesson.

If you do catch them being recorded live, you can ask questions which are answered live on screen by the instructor.

Udemy

Udemy is a giant source of online training courses on just about any subject you could imagine. Each class is held to its high standards of production and content, and the money you pay goes to the instructor, with a percentage going to Udemy.

Classes at Udemy generally run around $99-199, with plenty of free courses available for learning Web development. A brief search revealed a 42-part course on HTML5 available, free of charge.
