This month’s MDTC template uses the simple elegant style that is used on a variety of sites including mozilla.org and mamboserver.com. I have had frequent requests to make the mamboserver.com template available, so to answer those requests, the June 05 template presents a lot of the same features in a slightly different package. This template was built from the same code and has many of the same features as the mamboserver.com design such as easily switchable color variations, improved suckerfish menu, and the variable-max width control system.
This template has a variable-width layout that scales down to 800×600 and has a maximum size that retains readability on 1600×1200 and above resolutions.
Overview
An overview of the key features of this template are as follows:
- Joomla 1.0+ compatible
- Mambo 4.5.2.1+ compatible
- XHTML 1.0 Transitional
- CSS Validates (except for IE width hack)
- Easy to use and create color variation system
- Works with Mamblefish!
- Very Lightweight and fast loading
- Mozilla/Firefox/IE/Safari/Camino/Opera Friendly
- Flexible 3, 2, or 1 column configuration

Some screenshots showing these capabilities can be seen below:

Installation
Installation for this template is simple procedure:
- First install the template via the administrator as you normally do.
- This template uses the module positions pretty much as they come out of the box. So it should be a simple procedure to get this template up and running very quickly.
- The Tabs at the top should already be in user3 module position
- Top module position is best used for news flash modules as is the default configuration
- Left or Right module position can be used as primary navigation.
- User1 module position can be used for anything, but I advise using the Random Image or Newsflash module in this position. Best if used on the Homepage only.
- Footer is using the includes/footer.php as in SF2.
- TIPS I strongly suggest turning off Create Date, Author, Modified Date, & Back Button for this template as it gives a cleaner, more professional look.
Colored Modules
Regarding the Menu, you need to put -menu in the class suffix parameter for your menu modules to get the desired look
Regarding the colored modules, you need to put -color in the class suffix parameter for the modules you want to have placed in the colored box.
Check out the image on the right to see what this should look like:
Template Colors
Until we get proper params for templates, you have to do it a bit manually.
- By default the template can accept a param in the url called color, so if goto http://www.yoursite.com/index.php?color=green you will get the green template.
- You can modify the index.php of the template and uncomment the $color line at the top and manually set the color. “blue”, “green”, and “red” are supported.
